AMD Six core or the Intel i5

So i was looking at the prices and the amd SIX core is alot cheaper than the intel quad which one would you guys recommend?
I would primarily use it for gaming like Call of Duty Black ops and some other games, and use it for video rendering.
AMD Six Core: CompUSA.com | HDT55TFBGRBOX | AMD Phenom II 1055T Six Core Processor

    Or Intel i5: CompUSA.com | BX80605I5760 | Intel Core i5 760 Processor

    I'd go the i5 760. I did, and can't recommend it more.

Yea, Newegg should have it cheaper though.

Mine's overclocked to 4.2Ghz and sits at 36 degrees with 35 degree ambient temp. I'm using a simple water cooler setup though, only cost about $100 USD

I'd buy the hexa-core rather than the i5...
I always preferred AMD over Intel and of course, it is cheaper.

Phenom II x6 > i5. Do your research first so you know which will be the better bang for your buck. If you have prior setup that will hold either of these units it would probably be better to get what will fit in your current build. If its a new build its completely up to you.

none of those will fit in my mobo so i will be buying a new motherboard With AM3 socket for the six core or 1366 or 1156 for the intel but amd rig would come out cheaper and six core i would also be needed RAM since i only got ddr2.

You get what you pay for. And 6 core over 4 is a very minimal gain these days. Not enough stuff uses even a single core fully.

There are i7 hex cores if you really want 6 though, and they do kick ass.

6 cores over 4 might not help much today, but in 2 years maybe quad core will be at it's limits while 6 cores still holds on, more cores is more likely to be enough for a longer time, so if you plan to keep the setup for some years, go for hexa core

In 5 years you still won't even need 4 cores.

Re: AMD Six core or the Intel i5

That's up to debate, since the multi threading will sooner or later become standard thus creating games that could use or even require 4 cores at least to run smooth, but let's not get too off topic

Re: AMD Six core or the Intel i5

I'd get myself a six core in this situation, I don't see why not, the i5 doesn't have anything extraordinary that the six core doesn't have besides of the turbo technology which I find useless, if you plan on doing overclocking however then I don't know which would be better I know the i5 is good for overclocking but I don't know anything about the six core, if it can be stable on higher frequencies or how much it heats
