If you are going to run it on XP, then 4gb of ram is Great. And will be grand for most things.
If you want to pm me or msn me, thats fine.

What do you plan on using said PC for?

Also there's no use in putting 4GB of memory in a PC with a 32bit operating system, as it won't allow you to use all of it. Any of your video ram takes away from the maximum 4GB allowed.

Re: Build Or Buy A Computer

If your hosting servers you want that PC to be left alone at all times to do it's job. Your best bet would also be to build a custom one. You don't need anything like sound and such, just buy a really basic mobo that can support the processor and enough RAM to host the servers, you don't really need anything fancy stuff on the mobo.

That being said if its a small scale thing then those specs don't look too bad. P4 3Ghz with 2-4GB RAM will do fine (If your hosting multiple servers, don't forget about your internet bandwidth too.)

I think u made a typo in that last line ;)

But in general, any computer can do those stuff. If your going into HQ then a good cpu is a must (preferable C2D).

Re: Build Or Buy A Computer

For that price u get quite a good deal imo, and something newer will definitely set you back a lot more. Only downside is the graphics card though, probably be able to play a 'few' games, but don't expect much.

That P4 doesn't have 6Ghz of power. They say it's dual core but really its a thing called hyperthreading. Your only looking at 20-30% extra boost over a non hyperthreaded P4 on multithreaded applications.
