Buying an Apple Macbook Pro 15" Retina Display

I've recently got a job, and I've wanted an Apple Matchbook pro for a while.

I prefer windows on a computer, but I believe that Macbooks are good for coding websites and things so that's my main reason. Although I am looking into doing some video-work and editing.

I am looking in getting the Macbook Pro 15" with Retina Display.

Has anyone ever encountered problems with it, or weather is would be a waste of my money buying one?

    Many thanks,

    Matt Clarke

Re: Buying an Apple Macbook Pro 15" Retina Display

I saved up for a MacBook Pro 13" 8GB RAM, I paid about £1100 in total for it directly from the Apple website. Was all excited getting a Mac and stuff, was always a Apple Fan boy. After time, I've began to dislike my Mac. It's very limited and no It's not good for coding . I miss NotePad ++ on a Windows computer, yet on Mac I've struggled to find any decent Web Development text editors. I currently use TextWrangler, which to be honest... doesn't get anywhere to compete with NotePad ++ It's like Nokia and Apple.

The Mac is nice, boots up fast the first few times for once you start downloading a few applications and using the Mac It begins to become like a standard PC, Taking a good 30 seconds before getting to the login screen. I would recommend not going for the MacBook Pro, but the MacBook Air. If I looked into it a little more, I would have done the same. The MacBook Air has Flash Storage. I believe that Flash Storage increases the load-up time and general file management (according to the apple website anyway). Apple Mac's are fancy, Everyone wants them...but It's not all good! I like to play League of Legends (They've only just recently introduced the Mac client). My Mac is 8GB RAM and It's not loud when the fan is spinning, but it's bloody hot! I wear shorts around the house, so when I have my Mac on my knee It's fine normally, but doing it for a simple game like League of Legends... It really heats up and I physically can't sit there with it on my knee. That's how hot it is.

So thats get a few things straight, Mac's are not good for gaming, coding and you are very limited to what you can do. I am the Chief Executive Officer of a Virtual server company, and I use Microsoft related programs such as Remote Desktop Connection. I rely on these programs for my job. The Remote Desktop connection client is too big for the screen, so I rely on using the scrollbar to browse a node (dedicated server or virtual server). This can be a pain and I dislike doing it. Also every time I am to cross off any Microsoft related program I receive Microsoft errors popping up, which can be a hassle to cross off in some cases. Sometimes I have to boot up Force quit to do it. Also, You can install Windows on a Mac... don't do it! It's a horrible interface and It looks all wrong. It's all zoomed in and a waste of time and It won't be any good. You're better off sticking to the normal Mac.

I'm currently looking to build a Gaming PC, Simply because my Mac struggles to handle a small scale game (League of Legends). At the end of the day, It's up to you. But I'm telling you my experience with my Mac... and hopefully you will take your word for it because if I could turn back... I wouldn't have got this.

Thanks for the Advice mate. As I said I'm not looking to play games etc with it, it's plainly for business / personal use like music etc

As for text-editors, I find sublime text to be quite nice.

    Thanks again man,

You don't have to use NotePad++, you can use sublime text. Anyway, honestly, I don't like Macs that much because as you said, it's not that good for coding, and not that great for gaming (for gaming, you'd probably need to get one of their iMacs (limited gaming at that)). PCs are way more worth it.

Re: Buying an Apple Macbook Pro 15" Retina Display

I bought a macbook pro retina just for hardware as soon i had gotten it I bootcamp'd.

here's an screenshot of the glorious resolution.

    Gallery link: rmbp - Minus

Don't get me started with the battery on this laptop it lasts ENTIRE day. for first time, I can bring the laptop to school and use it so much and when I bring back to home it'll still be alive not dead like my old alienware.

bottom line is that if you want to pay respect for your computer hobby, and looking for real molbity that is not limited by performance, get rMBP. But just remember no way anywhere to best buck-for-bang. I dropped 3k on my babe.
