First off, please watch your attitude if you want help.

    1) Motherboard depends on your needs. So what are your needs?
I personally use a EVGA 680i board for a QX6700. Though that's because I am running a SLI setup. If I wasn't then I would be running a DFI x38 board as it's a much better board overall though no SLI support.

    2) It's not a gel. It's a paste. Arctic MX paste is very good but the problem with it is that it's very thick and hard to use. Not to mention once it's harden it's as hard as harden clay which makes removal a pain. I personally use Arctic Silver 5 paste. It's performance is on top and it's very easy to use. I got a 2oz tube which cost me about $30 but it's lasted though about 12 builds and it's only 1/2 down.

There are tons of cases that will fit a card that big. Most full size cases will do just fine. Ones like the Tt Shark and Armor, CM Stacker, SilverStone cases, and Lian-Li cases. Though all of those cases run $150-300usd without a PSU.

Don't smear the arctic silver all over the motherboard and it will be fine.

I woudl recommend the large tubes also.. with the self applicators. I bought one last year and it has also lasted through about 12 computer builds so far.. upgrading and all that can really do a job, along with upgrading heatsinks on a graphics card.

Just be careful when you apply it.. and use a pair of latex gloves, or put your hand inside a ziplock plastic bag to smear it.. DONT use your plain fingers.. the oils will cause hotspots and fry if theres too much of it.

Or use a card to smear it evenly. I use an old library card most of the time.

Theres been a lot of debate about how to apply thermal paste, I used to use a piece of card to smear it out like you suggest NoPeace, but then I read something that changed my views on it.

If you just put a small line of thermal paste on the CPU and then place the heatsink on and clamp it down the pressure from the heatsink will spread the paste out evenly over the contact area, problem solved with minimal effort.
