Dell Inspiron 15 5000/7000 series

Hello,

anyone got the latest Dell Inspiron 15 5000 or 7000 series? I would like to know your impressions, pros, cons. In general, if it worth to buy and if that 2-core i5/i7 is enough for computing, compiling etc. Are you satisfied
with it? Or can you recommend me something really good for a fair price? I don't want to spent as much as I spent on my MSI GS70 (1500 euro), so I want to spent something around 700 - 1100 euro.

My requirements:
Display - matte, 1920x1080 or more
CPU - Intel i5/i7
GPU - doesn't matter
RAM - 16GB
HDD - 2TB would be great, can be 1TB too
SSD - optional (128GB or more), if it doesn't have HDD, I need at least 512GB
DVD - doesn't matter
Keyboard - backlit

Compiling and computing nowadays rely on jobs, jobs a.k.a CPU threads. Hence a dual core i3/i5/i7 all have 4 threads (2 physical and 2 logical processors). The more cores of the above type of CPU you get you can double the jobs a.k.a threads. So for a quad core i5/i7 you will get 8 threads which is really good for compiling, if you want even more, get a desktop cpu with 8 cores which translates to 16 threads.

I know what is multi-threading I just wanted to hear some experiences, if it will be enough, because until now I always had quad-core i7 with 8 threads so... And I don't want desktop, I already had one, but I need portable workstation.

As the new Dell Inspiron 15 5000/7000 have only just been refreshed, I think it would be worth while holding off buying one - Unless you are in dire need of a laptop! Wait for reviews to come in and then make an informed decision, tbh the 15 7000 series would be the best bet for gaming, especially the high end QC i7 and 960m, the screen choice is yours do you want a 1920x1080 or a 4k screen. Entirely your choice.

I've got a Dell 17 7000 laptop, full speced out and it runs nicely, it's a dual core which is alright but a Quad Core would have been nicer, in terms of would I upgrade to the 15 7000, probably not. It looks like it's just made out of plastic or really cheaply made, if you want the high end Dell products XPS would be the range to look at.

Yes, I just opened video on YT and i saw date. Well, it looks really good, much better than the current one.

I checked it on US site (dell.com) and there are only the older versions of 7000, not this one.

Programming, graphics, web development, game servers, etc. So basically I need powerful CPU, enough system memory and some dedicated graphics card (2GB would be enough).

the 4K screen would definitely be a bonus for you then, I would go for the maxed out version just so you have the availability there.

It's already there I was on dell's website at morning and I saw only old version of 15 7000. Really thank you for this post, I found my future laptop And ye, I will go for the top version with SSD and HDD combination

My boss just got a new laptop from PC specialist. Was around £500 chapter than the closest one I could find to it on dell. You can spec it out yourself almost fully so you don't end up with shortfalls like you'd get on most off the shelf ones. Not sure what the build quality is like yet as he has yet to receive it, but the reviews seem decent enough.

Here where I live I didn't see anyone, who is building custom laptops, so it's not an option for me. I know that it would be much cheaper, because we are also paying for brand.

I have already decided, that I will buy that new Inspiron 15 7000, but I am not sure when, since it's not available here yet. But I am trying to find a way how to buy it from USA/UK, because I don't want to wait couple of months until it will be available in my country.

I have an Inspiron 15 5547, 2 gb video AMD Radeon R7 M265, and couldnt be happier. IT IS NOT A GAMING LAPTOP! - I can play GTA V on it on medium - high (even though that looks like R* hates AMD......), the drivers for the video suck btw, and you might want to go to modded drivers, aka Leshcat.

About the laptop itself, proccessing, etc, it's great. My version isnt full hd nor touch screen, but I don't care for it. Plus the lighting keyboard
