i think for general home use, ubuntu is a winner.
synaptic package manager is piss easy and lots and lots of hardware works with it.

im planing on trying updated fedora and suse to see how fast they are compared to ubuntu.

Ubuntu is crap in my opinion. Fedora Core is what I used to learn Linux and so I prefer that one. Not to mention it just looks and feels good.

I haven't used OpenSuES but I have extensively used SLES 9 (SuSE Linux Enterprise Server) and it's a very stable distro and great for server work.

New slackware came out, slackware 12.1, give it a try. Youll have to do some reading, but if you dedicate a little time, you will have a superb OS, and the knowledge to actually get under the hood of your OS :P

Out of all of those, id pick ubuntu. Ive used the new fedora a few times, but everytime Ive installed it(for shits and giggles) ive had stability issues. And i hate Fedoras package manager Yum with a passion.

In order to truly have a stable fast system, without a bunch of bloat, you gotta compile your own kernel :P

Ubuntu is more for General home usage, I agree, fast, looks good with WINE & Compiz Fuzion.

Haven't tried OpenSUSE, but from the screenshots, it looks very professional with the dock, etc.

I'll give a thumbs up sign for both.
