How do I build my own extreme rig ?

Hey guys , I've been wanting to build my own computer , but I do not have the knowledge of building them , NoPeace or anyone teach me ?

Here is what I've got .

I wanna play games like HL2:E2 , Crysis , BioShock , Juiced 2 HIN , etc .

Are this good ? ( At least run High on Crysis. )

For Crysis, I recommend getting another two gig of the OCZ Ram, I can play it at high, but do have some minor problems.

I think your CPU will perform quite well, there ain't many games supporting Quad Core yet, so still with the C2D E6850 (Btw, it's a lower end server CPU, Xeon).

Your motherboard....I don't like MSI, but that's my personal opinion, I would take a look at Asus, they have performed quite well for me.

For the Graphic Card, I recommend the 8800GT or GS Cards, either of them had a high score when playing games like Crysis. Then having two of those in SLI will certainly boost up your gaming performance.

You might also consider going with Raid 0, two small Sata II Disks, or even the Raptor disks in Raid 0, both will perform greatly. Raid 0 will give you a 80% I/O boost (OPS: Once one of your disks fail, you whole system will be down).

I might be wrong at some points, so I'll let NoPeace explain those in details:P

Well you are wrong about E6850 ... its not qued, its dual core. U can easily remeber it by Q... and well conroe is dual core codename also. and you can get much better system for that money.

Also to the OP. Do not get an 8800GTX. Sure it's an amazingly fast card and I do have 2 of them but there is much better options out there for the same price.

An AMD 3780X2 costs less and is much faster. Also the 9800GTX is almost out and it'll be even cheaper and about the same speed if not a little more. Also you have the 9800GX2 coming out soon and it'll be even faster but for $50 more.

Still, even at this moment you can get dual 8800GTs for the same price as a GTX and it'll be faster.

The only time to go for a GTX card is if you must have 2-3 of them right now to run a 30" monitor. If that's not the case then wait 2 weeks for faster cards to come out.

Also go with a 680i board and DDR2 memory. Far cheaper and gives you the same performance and with more RAM to come with it.

As for the water cooling unit. Avoid that one and go with either a Koolance kit (for easy installation) or a Swiftech kit (cheaper, better performing, and harder to install compared to Koolance). Both of those companies make great water cooling items.

In the linux community we say RTFM... Google it to find out what it means...

Even if you know what you are doing you still need to RTFM as everything is different.

You will when you buy the parts. Where do you think the manuals come from? If you have absolutely no idea how to do it though, i would highly recommend you not building this PC yourself yet. Because the parts are so expensive, it will be horrible if you fucked up and broke one or more or the parts. Try taking apart and re-assembling an older PC first, or the one you are using atm.

Well, I can't say I've really built my own computer from scratch, although I have changed everything excluding the motherboard (BEcause then I have to buy DDR2 ram and a new CPU..) And I've switched cases which involved me taking everything apart and re-assembling into a new case. It's kind of self explanatory really, and most of the motherboards have the things labeled that needs to be plugged in, such as fans and whatnot, So you know where some plugins go..

1) Ground yourself
2) Don't forget the brass standoffs for the motherboard
3) Does it look like it fits in that slot? If yes then go for it.
4) If it doesn't go in, DON'T FORCE IT IN!

That's all you really need to know, the rest of it is self explanatory, all the connections are vastly different so there's no way you can really go wrong.

Anyways, two gbs of ram is fine for Crysis. Someone mentioned having minor problems with it on two gbs, but I've yet to experience any issues yet. Nontheless, he did say minor, so if you're ok with minor being a possibility, then keep it at two for the time being (you can upgrade later afterall).

Follow the suggestions in this thread. And, since you're going to be using water cooling, be extra careful.

Definitely would not recommend water cooling at all, let alone to anyone who doesn't have a clue what they are doing.

4gb is actually the "sweet spot" nowadays with the 64bit systems and quad core.. decent performance increases runnign it. especially if your pushing SLI.
