    I need some tips

    GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail - Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

    Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL 600W - Newegg.com - Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL 600W Power Supply - Retail

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz - Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor - Retail

    512MB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) - Newegg.com - SUPER TALENT 512MB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Desktop Memory - Retail x4

In about 2 months I will buy new PC parts for around 700 dollars (530€)

Later this year a dx10 card aswell, but not right now. Would this be a good set up for 2-3 years? Or what could be changed?

(Sorry if this should be in tech help, I don't know 100%)

    Re: I need some tips

In April there are going to be price drops. The e6700 will replace the e6600 and and like wise for the other CPUs down the list.

Also the midrange DX10 cards come out too. The 8600GTS will be a great card at a cheap price.

If you wait 6 months the q6600 should be $266. And that's a great long term CPU. But that's 6 months away and in April it'll be $500.

Good? You'll be amazed by the e6700. It's blazing fast. =P

The only reason why I would change from it is to get more cores and when I do it'll be a qx6700. Same CPU but 2 of them.

And with the power of the e6700 it should be good for about 2 years easy. Over clock it some and it'll be even better.

It should be good enough to even handle a 10x333 (3.33ghz) which is what the e6950 is going to have when it comes out in a year. =P

Looks to be an all around good setup there.. Have never heard of the Rosewill brand for power supplies.. not saying its bad, but the reviews look good, which is always a good thing :-) If you are planning on sticking to an 8800+ system in the future, i -might- offer up that you get yourself something with more then just dual 12v rails, perhaps one with 4 might be more suiting to your needs? They are a tad more expensive, but definatly worth the output you can get from them!

That PSU can handle an 8800GTX with no problem. My wife has the 550w version running a 4800+ with SLI 7800GTX and it's holding up just fine. Hell ran it with a 4800+ OCed to 2.7ghz and a pair of 7900GTX's OCed to 690/1800 for 6 months and it ran just smooth.

And those quad rail PSUs are just a cheap way of making large capacity PSUs cheaply. A single high amp rail provides a better flow of power then 4 lower amp ones. ;)

    How about a 500w with a 8800 GTS 320mb or a 8600 GTS 500mb?

500w is enough for those cards but if you want to go dual in the future then get at least 550w.
