    IO drive, worth the cost?

    ioDrive :: Products:: Fusion-io

    HDD's are normally the bottleneck now a days, what with new hardware coming at more frequently at a quicker rate, what i'd like to know is if you guys think the cost associated with an "IO Drive" is worth it?

    I hear it's about $3k for a 80GB HDD, but check out the specs from the link above and you will see why...

    1. It's a PCI-e SSD, just like i told you it was
    2. New SATA3 SSD's coming out in 4th quarter of 2012 will have 550Mb/s read and write

    No, not worth it. Not when SSD's are getting faster every 6 months.

    He was actually referring to the ioDrive Octal - 5.12TB drive with 6.0GB/s Read and 4.4GB/s Write bandwidth, though apparently the new ones can sustain a write speed of 1TB/s. Can't find a price for it anywhere on the net, but I've heard that it will set you back about $15,000 USD.

    Even if i had that kind of cash i still wouldn't buy it. The rest of your PC would be the bottleneck. Wait till the new SSD's are released, and then get 2 in RAID 0.

    Quite satisfied with my Phoenix G.Skill Pro SSD.

    I thought that was alot of money to shell out on a hard drive, but this is just on another level.
