Laptop purchase.
Just looking to see if this is a good purchase, I have recently come across this laptop in a computer shop and took a look at it and it seemed pretty good at first glance of the specs.
Lenovo 'IDEAPAD' Y710-100
Intel Core 2 DUO
2.4Ghz
2gb RAM
320gb HDD
256mb dedicated GFX
17" screen
Toshiba Satellite P300/P01
Intel Core 2 DUO
2.4Ghz
4gb RAM
500gb HDD
512mb dedicated GFX
17" screen
+ a bonus160GB Portable HD or a 7" photo frame (electronic one).
I will be using the laptop for general purposes, mainly IM, web surfing, website design and devlopment, music, watch DVD's etc
Or anything else under the $1500AUD mark :tonuge:

The prices dont look right lol, but I think you should get the first one. Anyways, the first choice is ideal for your laptop usage, so I do recommend getting it. But getting either is your choice...

Well, if those prices are right, that's kind of crazy, the second one is better (More RAM, HDD Space and a better GFX Chip)
So I would get that...it's cheaper and better..

yea, i'd go with the second one. better specs for a cheaper price. might wanna look at the warranty though

Re: Laptop purchase.
The only thing is I currently have a Toshiba and it's crap to be honest, due to my carelessness with it after I ran into problem after problem with it, that's the only reason what's stopping me so far from getting the Toshiba one.

ah, well, it seems to me that the toshiba one is better value for money but if u've had problems with them then by all means, steer clear of it. we can only advise, the decision still rests with you

Re: Laptop purchase.
I've had a couple of toshiba laptops...
I found them to be pretty durable. The only complaint I've had, is that, the ones I've had... they have a fan on the bottom of the laptop. Dust gets in there, and then the fan seems to get clogged up, and the computer overheats and shuts off...
What I found to work with that, was compressed air.
I do like the toshiba's, although for me at this point, I would probably go with what ever is lighter, and easier to carry.
I personally wouldn't get a 17 inch laptop, I'd find it too hard to carry around.

Re: Laptop purchase.
The only Toshiba laptop I've used was the one my dad got about six years ago. The only problem we had with it was a HDD failure after about 2 years of use, warranty fixed that. He switched to a Sony Viao a couple of years ago. We still have the USB Floppy that came with the Toshiba though.
And yeah, biggest I'd go for a laptop would be 15.4". 17" are too big and bulky, and battery life isn't all that long, unless it's been extended significantly since the last time I looked.
