I was wondering why lenovo is so generous with their laptops but it seems they might get some revenue from spying on companies and agencies.

Backdoor hardware... like nobody would have noticed that before. Also, Lenovo doesn't make firmware, creators of hardware do and as far as I know Lenovo doesn't have hardware.Sources say that British intelligence agency research found "back-door" hardware and vulnerable firmware in Lenovo products
This stuff is going nowhere, next thing in the news is a device in your doorbell that notifies the NSA when there's people on your doorstep so they can use an algorithm to find out whether or not you're a terrorist.
I think lenovo could be doing something similar to what the NSA are doing http://www.spiegel.de/international/...-a-940994.html

This is extremely old news. Also, read the article. It is covering a rumor with the Aussie Government even confirming there is no such ban.
Please actually read the article you're linking before you post nonsense here.
I never said that lenovo was being banned but that they could be spying on their customers. However, if you read what the aus govt said you would see that they don't even care to ban them, they just avoid them altogether since no one seems to have suggested their use even after IBM sold their laptop models to lenovo.
“Defence has an accreditation process for all equipment used on Defence networks. There has never been a request to Defence to accredit Lenovo computer products for the Top Secret and Secret Networks.”

That's exactly what I meant with "this stuff is going nowhere". People heard about the NSA and they think they know everything about any other company as well.
If Lenovo would even think of putting in a backdoor then
a) People would notice sooner or later, come with proof (actual proof, not just some nonsense article) and Lenovo is done with being a company.
b) Working for a ministry myself I can assure you laptops are not allowed to access any computer network that holds confidential information. All they could possibly do with their backdoor is sniff the guest internet traffic (guest devices have a separated internet connection over Wi-Fi or cable).
Unless you're going to build backdoors in switches, server software, routers or other network equipment, if this kind of backdoor would even hit your company you shouldn't be in business anyway.
