'missing operating system' on bootup
yeah. my computer was fine last night. i booted it up this morning, and i get the error 'missing operating system'
it doesnt even load windows.
i tried changing the first bootup disk to HDD, then i got a separate error, something along the lines of 'disk not found'
also my computer makes a funny sound whilst it displays this message (if that helps...)
ive checked and double checked everything. only thing i havent checked is if RAID has been disabled...and thats because i dont know how. (a)
any help on this please?
much appreciated.

Re: 'missing operating system' on bootup
Sounds like your drive may have died, if you get a lot of dead drives it may be a problem with your power supply (Surges etc) or something else shorting out hardware wise, or you may just be using software that is corrupting the data, try to reformat the HDD if it can't even manage that, it's more than likely a faulty HDD. still could be other things like a bad sata wire connection or a mobo issue, but more than likely HDD issue.
Just troubleshoot man, PC work is a lot easier than people think if you take it one step at a time.

Re: 'missing operating system' on bootup
power surges? my younger siblings seem to be just pulling the plug on the computer, instead of just shutting it down properly. and yeah. i thought it might be a damaged HDD.
how am i supposed to troubleshoot when a) i dont have access to the OS, and b) i dont have my disk...

Re: 'missing operating system' on bootup
I mean hardware troubleshoot, real troubleshoot =p borrow an HDD and see if it boots up with it, or try and download an OS (I reccomend a free, legal download such as linux, but if you break the law, thats up to you) to see if you can reformat your HDD.

Re: 'missing operating system' on bootup
your boot file may have corrupted, use a rescue disk that rebuilds it.

Re: 'missing operating system' on bootup
Go into the BIOS. If you can't even see your HDD from there, it's gone. Also check the BIOS for your RAID settings, but that really shouldn't be the issue unless someone's been messing around with your PC.

Re: 'missing operating system' on bootup
first > go to your BIOS reset the settings(and restart your pc)
if that dosent work then your OS is probaly fucked reinstall it, or your HDD is broken or loose.
and also open up your case and see if the wires are loose
and do you mind posting a screenshort?
