no output on dvi port on mobo

so yeah uh... i have two output ports on my mobo, one vga and one dvi(d). i've been runing off of a single screen through vga. I kinda like dual screen setups, so i decided to go get my self a dvi cable. stuck it in, but alas, it was to no avail (no output). bought an adapter from vga to dvi, stuck it in, still the same result. is there some setting i have to change in my video settings or bios that will allow usage of that output?

Does the DVI work if you unplug the VGA cable?

Also, VGA + DVI ports on a mobo = integrated graphics? You sure it even supports multiple displays?

ati 4200 can support dual display from what i've read. I also only left only the dvi in and got nothing.
