Hey guys. Let me see if you can give me some tips. ^^
I'm in doubt about buying an iPod, because I've read it stop working with a 2-year-of -use, here in Brazil they call if "iPod's death", I don't know in other places. Anyway, I'm browsing in a webshop right now and checking some iPods, I can see some from the third generation of iPods.
Does this one have the same problem of "dying" from the other gens?
They will all "die". Infact, every mp3 player will "die". I have had my ipod for 2 years and had no problems ever. If you take care and look after it then why should it die? It dies for those who drop it, shake it, try to install programs on it... use it normally and no problems should exist. If they do, iy will happen within the first few months, and its covered by full warranty.
iPods are prone to dying because people don't take care of them and cause the platers to get damaged when they drop them.
If you take care of it then they will last forever. I have the first U2 edition iPod from whenever they came out (3rd gen?) and it still works just fine. I also have the new iPod classic which also works just fine.

I see a lot of kids in my school who don't give a rat ass about their electronics. Ipods, Zune, phones, etc. you name it, they drop it, and they don't even care. 2-3 days later, their electronics dies out. then they get a new one. they are careless.
they only last about 2 years because, as people said, they dont look after them.
i know someone who got exactly the same make and model mp3 player as me, about 4 months after me, and destroyed it within a year. ive still got mind, had it since i was 13, and its still working perfectly, not a scratch on it!
My first iPod video lasted for over 2 years and yes, it went through a lot of shit. I once dropped a chair on it and it fell so often on the ground yet it survived 2 years. I have my new classic for almost a year now and it does not even have a scratch. iPods are awesome if you ask me.
Personally I would go for something like a Creative (if available in your country), I think the quality is alot better, the price is generally cheaper than iPods and they hold normally about 4 times more for the same price eg.
Code:iPod - 200$ > 2gb Creative - 200$ > 8gb
It's probably because of the battery and how well you use it. If you charge it full and let it discharge completely empty without charging again, your battery will last longer. I still have Nano Gen 1 and its working fine.
Actually quite the opposite. Letting your battery empty completely reduces its life. and the batteries for iPods last for a certain amount of complete cycles ; doesn't matter how much life it has before you charge it again.Originally Posted by Pfa

Different type of battery? Or maybe just marketing ploy lol, but i remember seeing on the Apple website them saying that discharging it fully decreases battery life.
most electronics that use rechargable batteries usually state in their manual to do a full charge and full discharge for the first couple of cycles. nv actually heard of one that actually asks you to fully discharge before every charge... well, no newer ones neway
