you're a little out of date because te best mid-range card is x1950pro, its about 10$ buck more than 7600gt and perform way better.1900gt is about same price but its slighty less powerful.

x1900xt isnt produced anymore so if you're lucky to get one of the few remaining cards, good. And i think 7900gt too(not sure). so for high end its 7900gto,which is a clocked down gtx at the same price of the gt,only MSI produce it so i don't think their many of them either, its pretty much out of stock everywhere here. on the ati side only x1950xtx remains...its a little expansive, but it's one hell of a card(that's what im using)

Just wanted to point something out (strange that I haven't looked at this thread in ages =/) is that MSI isn't the only one to produce the GTO. In fact I've only seen 1 MSI GTO out there. 90% of the ones I've seen is the EVGA one. ;)

Unless you have high end speakers a sound card isn't going to do much. A video card is a much better upgrade.

sweet guide nopeace. Only thing I hate about computer hardware is it always gets out-dated as soon as you get it :p. I'm going to wait for the 8800 series to get cheaper, not to mention conroe (or quad-core from either intel/amd)

AMD quad core aint going to be a bad thing in terms of price. FX-70 (dual FX-60s on a new socket) is going to be $499, FX-72 (dual FX-62s on a new socket) will be $699 and finnaly FX-74 is going to be $899 which is dual 3.0ghz dual cores on a new socket.

Much cheaper then the bloody Kentsfield at $1499. And in terms of power. The FX-74 will be in between the e6600 and e6700. So a tad bit slower then the Kentsfield (dual e6700) and is much less money. Not to mention. Thoes CPUs have no bandwidth bottle necks. So the more you do the better it gets. Unlike the kentsfield slows down the more you do.

Basically they are a workstation CPU for a gammer. So think about encoding a DVD while playing an FPS game with dual video cards. Hell add quad video cards and there'll still be plenty of bandwidth.

Only bad thing about it is at the moment only motherboard that supports it has 4x DIMM slots so a max of 2gb of RAM per CPU. Which is a killer as it supports up to 16gb in total. So seeing revised boards with 8x DIMM slots is going kick ass with 8gb of RAM (4 per CPU).

Then again it drains 2x the power and generates 2x the heat for slighly less single task performance. Then again it'll never slow down on you no matter how hard you try.

Can't wait to see it with a pair of the AMD r600 GPUs and a pair of AMD r690 Chipsets, with 8gb of RAM. Then it's really going to shine. An all AMD rig. Lol.

Need to bug my dad for a new computer this spring with that stuff. =P

Speaking of the R600. When it comes out the 8800's will drop in price big time. As the x2800XTX will be the same price as the 8800GTS and just a little bit slower then two of them in SLI.

No chance for the GTX to compete with the XTX when it's far faster and cheaper. Not to metnion the XTX will have 1gb of RAM, more shaders, and a 512mb memory bus compared to their 256mb. Good thing DDR4 is cheaper then DD3. =P

Just look at what I posted. A Core 2 Duo is not a Pentium. Completely different thing and they are the most powerful things you can offer. Though if you must have an AMD based machine I'll make up one.
