    PC or Laptop?

Ok first off, is it better to buy a PC or Laptop? I would use PC for maybe like a year only coz in a year im going to study at uni and im not gonna take my PC with me, so i think Laptop would be better coz i could use it at uni, but the thing is i also want to run games on it and im afraid that most of the laptops wont be able to run the lastest games with at least normal graphics without freezing.

So, what is better PC or Laptop?

Also, what PC / Laptop would be the best to buy? I can spend on it like 1200$ max

    Re: PC or Laptop?

Well, if you can't take tour PC with you buying one would be a waste of money. Nowadays laptops can run games pretty well, obviously they cannot match a pc in terms of performance, but I think the gaming possibilities on a laptop are sufficient.

It pretty much depends on what games you play and what you are willing to spend.

I have the Asus n56vz with an i7 and a GeForce 650M and I play games on ultra. If your budget allows it I would recommend that one. Do take a look at some laptops and post back with ones you would like to know I'd they would suffice.

    Your Preferance..
I Had the same option a while back.. PC Or Laptop...
I Chose Laptop.. ( And not because the pc's were out of stock.. k.. )
Laptop you can take wherever you go, but Pc's are hostile and will be at your desk.
PC Has better gaming quality and specs, but if you lift your laptop budget to about $500 you can get a good laptop..

That i7 IS an Ivy Bridge..
You don't quite need 16gb of ram actually.. 8 is sufficient.
750Gb of HDD is sufficient porn storage.
GeForce GT 630M is Alright. I'd check if HP has a model that has less RAM (like 8 Gb) and instead has a GeForce GT 650M.
Windows 8 rocks Imo. It's still a matter of preference though.

    Price seems legit.

I beg to differ. I played Assasins Creed 3, Far Cry 3 and Team Fortress 2 on Windows 8 and they all worked like a charm. You must have done something wrong when you tried playing those games.

How about this one? Seems to be within your budget. Do look for reviews and compare it to other brands.

    PC vs Laptop.

    Ask yourself this question.
Am i going to be moving around with it alot? If so, you're immediate conclusion
would be to buy a laptop.

Or, you could just buy both...
I have 3 different laptops and a desktop...highly impractical, but whatever
    Each has its use.

    Re: PC or Laptop?

Get a PC, you can fix it easily if something breaks and even upgrade it easily on your own and not send it in to the store to get it fixed so it's much easier. In terms of performance it is much better depending on what you choose, the amount you can get in a laptop is sufficient if you are just browsing and developing websites/programs or just doing stuff for work.

    Gaming/Ease of Use: PC
    Work/Developing small applications: Laptop

    My choice: PC

    Just... no.
No. Just no. Why would you recommend him a PC if he can't take it with him? That's a total waste of money.. The easy fixing and upgrading only applies if he is willing to open it up and is confident in doing so. I disagree with a laptop only being good for browsing. I have a laptop myself for the same budget range and gaming is sexy as hell, I run Photoshop, visual studio, browser with idk how many tabs open and other stuff and it won't even stutter. Maybe a few years ago it was true that most laptops weren't meant for gaming, but not anymore.

I also disagree on the Windows 8 part. Everyone in my school said they hated it, but they installed it and now they're loving it. With or without start 8.

Ease of use? How about a laptop? You can take it anywhere you want to go.

No offence but I think you had no idea what you were saying when typing that post..

What I tell people is if you're planning on going to school and being mobile then get a laptop. If you want to play games too then save more money and get something like a m18 from alien ware. Their desktops are overpriced but their laptops are amazing.

So, get a laptop. Nothing to debate really. You'll waste money if you get a desktop in your situation.

For battery life, it depends on the specs, screen size, battery size, etc... If you get a regular laptop don't expect to have great battery life. Gaming laptops usually come with larger batteries so they last longer under regular usage.

For overheating, its really not as bad as it used to be. Companies have improved on helping laptops breathe, just don't sit them on blankets or anything that can wrap around them. Dust them out once a week with compressed air and and you'll be fine.

Ah well at least they shaved :P Can't stand hairy dudes kissing.

And as for topic, I would look at one of the new touch screen Windows 8 laptops.
i3 is probably all you need for mobile gaming ~6-8 GB ram is also really all you need.
For graphic card I wouldn't bother with anything lower than GT 650M and if I couldn't get that, I'd just go with HD4000.
I'd concentrate on having SSD in there.
Windows 8 is extremely nice and enhances productivity a lot. Just gotta get used to it.
So far I haven't encountered any compatibility issues and I'm loving mounting and burning .iso without additional software (I do it a lot).
As for games, everything works as it did on Windows 7 - no performance drop/increase.

here are a couple of laptops that I'd prefer to get.

    Alienware m14x : http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-m14x-r2/pd.aspxc
Lenovo laptops really destroy everything when it comes down to gaming and overall perfomance. You'll also more money.

    Re: PC or Laptop?

First and most important (at least for me) question is:
Are you going to the uni to play games or study?
The answer of this question may lead you as well to the answer of yours.
Now about that, currently I'm in uni, I myself have almost no time at all to play games(then again i lay off at rz .. :D), especially now when we are in an exam session. Also I just need that damn laptop, since being mobile is all about it. Currently got the desktop from a friend since mine is back at my hometown. So I'll suggest you a laptop. : ]

Got a link for that? It sounds very nice and an attractive price too.
