    Plasma v LCD

I heard plasmas have something like 0.001ms response times and 15000:1 contrast radio, so that makes them better quality, but some people still don't like them as they take up too much power and they break easy. I agree plasmas are better quality as my dad owns one. Lcd gives off a good quality as well but witch would be best overall looking as lifespan, quality and power consumption.

    LCD all the way.

Yes Plasmas are all fancy, modern and snazzy but you can't beat the good ol' HD Ready LCD TV. So yeah, go with an LCD TV if you want more wear out of it.

    Re: Plasma v LCD

LCDs why? Better resolution (most plasmas are not true wide screen and are streatched out to fit it), better contrast ratios now (mine is 16,000:1), half as much power, better view angle, longer life span, etc...

LCDs are just better all around.

    Re: Plasma v LCD

    LCD because:

    1. They are cheaper
    2. Better resolution
    3. Better contrast
    4. Plasma's burn images alot easier
    5. Plasma's have reached the peak of their technology, they can never get better. LCD's still have a long way to go.

latest generation plasmas and lcds are good, make sure u buy a NEW lcd if you do so you dont get choppy picture or washed out colours.

but as i say latest generation both are impressive (stay away from silly companies like "yukaukajung")

You got yourself a LCD TV, or are you talking about your monitor?

Aren't old TVs CRT as well?

Anyways, go for LCD. Less power usage and more lifetime. I got one 2 months ago and it's AWESOME!

Yes old TV's are CRT, just like old monitors. Exy has/had a CRT TV hence why i'm asking if he's talking about his TV or his monitor (quite sure he had a LCD monitor already)

Speaking of CRT. HD CRT TV's are pretty sweet btw.

Next for what? Displays. Probably OLED's, then again i haven't checked on it lately, so maybe it's not progressing as well as was expected. It's being used already though, my old Samsung E720 has a OLED screen on the outside (clamshell phone)

OLEDs really pwn. Have watched a 11" screen in a store nearby and well. Nothing compares.

As for Plasma vs. LCD I'd say plasma unless you're gonna use it as a computer screen. Sure the LCD looks better on paper but comparing them viewing the same movie, plasma looks better to my eyes.

I'm guessing you are talking about regular DVD's then, try comparing HD movies. ;)

Plasma is still evolving . . . but not in such great leaps or at the same speed at which LCD/ OlED technology is . . .

Oled will replace everything . . . simply because you can fit more into less space and no need for hot clumsy back lights. . . .

DLP projection . . . eeh i mean its a good technology . . . but by watching a reflection of light you are already not getting a direct image source . . . you are infact watching a delayed/distorted image as the light reflects on to the back of the screen. . . also who wants to change bulbs for 400+ $ and they get dimmer over time. . . there are new ones using some kinda of laser junk tech . . . but honestly rear projection / forward projection is
    1.) Degraded
2.) Give off too much heat
3.) have to change bulbs/expensive to maintain.
    4.) Bulky.

Plasma isn't evolving. Nothing has changed with them over the last 2-3 years. Actually all progress has stopped and many companies are completely ditching them as they are not profitable.

OLED will replace LCDs in 5 or more year. Not any time soon as it's just too expensive.

2 of your points I must disagree on. They do not produce much heat. Sure maybe a 65" DLP will produce the same heat as a 40" LCD but inch for inch they produce the least amount of heat.

They also don't degrade much over time and when you have to replace the bulbs it isn't a big deal. Sure you'll have to spend $300 every 5 years on them but in all honesty you wont be putting in more then 1 bulb anyways.

Now when you compare the cost of them to the cost of an LCD of the same size there is no comparison. You can get a 65" 1080p DLP set for the cost of a 40" 720p LCD. A comparable LCD will run you 3 times as much.

Now if you compare the upkeep cost for the life of the DLP to the same life span of the LCD, you will still be paying much less for it. Not to mention the power useage of the DLP will be much lower then that of the LCD.

Yes they are big but in all honesty it wont matter much when you are looking for a TV that is over 60".

THe only downfall of DLPs are their color quality isn't as good as an LCD and they must be in a dark room.

Check the replies from Engadget, they are saying that. :P

In their defense, this picture was taken from this year's CES, and I can personally say they did look damn good.
