Depends on where you live, at least currently.

Some countries, namely the U.S.A., are getting much more strict about it, many have been caught and fined and in a major victory for the entertainment industry, the Supreme Court Monday unanimously ruled that file-sharing companies could be held liable for encouraging their users to download copyrighted movies and songs from the Internet.

However, once again, that is just the U.S.A., and it really hasn't stopped anyone from it ;)

Other countires don't agree, either...In the first ruling of its kind in Taiwan, a Taiwanese district court on Thursday found peer-to-peer (P-to-P) file-sharing software maker Ezpeer.com not guilty of violating copyrights.

Just be prepared for ramifications of your actions, as always!
