"Once you go Mac, you never go back"

I've learnt so much on Windows but like the look of Mac, I feel like a change but at the same time the idea of an OS where I can't find things and do what I want to concerns me slightly.

I know I could buy a computer with the same specs for half the price if I was willing to get Windows but I am happy to pay double for a well built machine and OS in addition to Apple's good reputation.

I guess my main question is: Has anyone ever owned a Mac and disliked it or struggled to grasp the basics?

Re: "Once you go Mac, you never go back"

I feel as though Mac's are for users that look for a very straight-forward OS. That's why my dad owns several Apple devices, including a Macbook Air and a Macbook Pro. Everything works out of the box and to be frank it's made him a very lazy computer user. He expects everything to work just like that, something which doesn't always happen on Windows.

I beg to differ with your title. I tried Mac for about 10 minutes before almost tossing my tower out my window. It wasn't that I couldn't grasp the basics or anything like that I just plain didn't like it. I know quite a few people who tried switching to Mac too and they said pretty much the same thing. Mac is good for professional tools/business and all but not for gamers or just regular everyday recreational use imo.

Because Mac OS X is so basic and works straight out the box it's ideal for a professional and a business environment but I feel it depends entirely on who you are and what you do. As a network engineer in the making, I need to know a PC inside out. Knowing a Mac would be a major plus too. However the home user would benefit from a Mac but the initial cost of it means a PC is a much better alternative. Plus people don't like change so they stick with the tried and tested Windows. I think you'd need to evaluate who you are as an IT user - what do you do on your computer? What's your career/career path? Can you compromise lack of customisation for simplicity? Is money an object?

I had Mac and went back :P, I just don't like the simplicity, it has no real advanced options and gaming on it is a joke.

I do have a Macbook Pro 2012 Retina model but its just a paperweight, I rarely ever feel the urge to use it over my Desktop PC, I use my Macbook Pro for college and shit.

I paid the same price as it would have cost to build a powerful Gaming PC.

actually, i've been given a mac at work. The first 30-60 minutes i felt like i was touching a computer for the first time. Then i got used to the interface and how things worked, but i really did not enjoy my experience with it. when you get used to something it is quite hard to change it (really i didnt even know how to access network pc's with the mac). It's not you can't work with one, it's just that it depends on how much energy and time you want to spent on learning to work with something new. When you learn the shortcuts and your way around windows it's hard to get used to the total different "culture" that comes with the mac and it's OS.

    Command-Control-power button = force restart
    Command-Accent (`) = (ATL+TAB-ing)
Option key while dragging = Copy dragged item
Command-Option key = Make alias of dragged item (short cut)
    Command-Option-esc = (ALT+CTRL+DEL)

and remember it may look cool, but it is limited, you can do less with it.

I can't deny that Apple has great ideas and great products, but that does not mean I like Apple.
I hate everything that has anything with Apple to do.

    Death to Steve Jobs!
    oh that's right, he's already dead :D

    - Overpriced (No, i'm not poor. I can buy it.)
    - Design looks shit in my opinion
    - OS X, only positive thing about that is that it's Unix based
    - Warranty (1 year by default I believe?)
    - There are enough non-Apple laptops out there which can run Photoshop/Fireworks flawlessly.

Re: "Once you go Mac, you never go back"

I have worked with and used both mac and pc for many years now.

    Macs,
Overpriced - The gear inside is not great to be honest and you could get better specs far cheaper of pc.
Design - So So , Honestly there are far more interesting PC,s if your willing do a few hours tweaking.
OS X - A bit like most things from apple. One trick repeated over and over and over
Warranty - 1 Year if I remember correctly cant say I ever took the time to check

    -Overall,
Why macs are good out of the box that is about as far as they go. There limited compared to a pc and honestly there design is the only true selling factor. They dont really have a better life span than pc but you could say they last longer because you do less intensive content on a mac than a pc.
So do you want a computer that never evolves and once its old its just old.

    PC,
Fair/Overpriced - Pricing depends on what your looking out. Some companies overprice some are fair some even underprice.
Design - Basic to start but if your willing to spend an extra few pennies or some time you can really make a pc look beastly.
Linux,OS X,Windows and more - Pc has a far wider choice and honestly most other OS beat OS X with some minor tweaking.
Warranty - Normally 1-3 years upto 5 on some

    -Overall,
Most Pc take slightly more time to get used to and there not always out of the box nice. How ever with a bit of time you have a far greater view than with a mac. There prices are far cheaper for the same specs and for the price you pay for a top of the range mac you could purchase a monster of a PC.
So do you want a computer that evolves and once its old you can simply change a single part.

Re: "Once you go Mac, you never go back"

After testing a Mac out in the store I've decided I probably wont get one, they are beautiful but it is pointless having one if you have no idea how to use it fully. It's like getting a car when you can't drive - pointless.

I feel as if Apple is brain washing people. Tons of people at my school have a Mac, and it really pisses me off when I hear them saying its the best because it can't get viruses or stupid false facts like that.

I don't believe that's an entirely false fact.
