I believe EliteGM meant that the argument is reasonable considering the chances of getting viruses on Windows vs MacOS.
Will add up to the thread from my own experience. I firstly was introduced and forced to use MacOS while being intern, and had mixed feelings about it. Later, I bought MacBook Air to carry with myself to university, meetings, etc. Clearly I felt its advantages highlighted in simplicity and letting me focus on the task rather than getting distracted.
I became a MacOS lover (not a fanboy though) and installed Hackintosh on my PC, after few months I realized how slow it is in comparison to Windows on a same hardware and decided to give Windows 8 a try instead. Well now I am back using Windows 8 even though I got MacOS installed on same computer for the next reasons:
It is blazing fast in comparison to MacOS despite of my hardware being 4 years old.
More effective memory management, 4gig on MacOS is just enough to boot up the system and load Chrome + Photoshop. Windows loading same applications would leave me around 30% memory free. Don't tell me MacOS is better on memory because it "caches", it does not help unless you have 16gb!
There simply is no simple and reliable music player software on MacOS except iTunes, and I can't stand it.
Cygwin partially solved my hate of windows due to the missing Unix shell.
I am enjoying the minimalism which came with Windows 8 (No, I don't use MetroUI)
Windows gives way more freedom and control, nobody should doubt in it.
There are still advantages of MacOS, one of which I would highlight is it magically helps you focus on the specific task, but that can be achieved on Windows through a bit more self-control.
Personally, owning both mac and windows pc's, I would be more likely to go with Mac, mainly because I don't usually play games. Only a couple now and again, I usually either use it for Photoshop, After Effects and things like that. If I want to play a game, I will usually wait until it comes out on mac if it isn't already.
In my opinion I adore OS X as it is simple and is modern. While Windows 7/8 can be compared, Window's 8 over complicates things with having both needing to swap between tiles and desktop to get a certain setting.
Viruses are least likely to come to Macs, yes there have been very few but not millions as on Windows. I would probably go Mac on that reason as well.
Designs vary and I have seen some slick and modern Windows PC's but Mac just attracts me more.
It's like all technological devices. You are more likely going to be paying for the Brand and not the actual computer.
Getting infected by a virus or trojan is caused by the user, you can't blame the OS.
I've never been infected by browsing or downloading, just a matter of paying attention. (And plugins such as AdBlock and Ghostery.)
Oh I found an interesting image lately.

People for whom money is no object and who just want a dumb workhorse will still get one
OS X seems very simple to me.
I haven't used much Linux before (only toyed around with Ubuntu/ Fedora) and I grew up on Windows.
I've been using OS X for about a week now and with help of several online tutorials that feeling of "not knowing" is starting to disappear...
To be honest tho, I don't see any advantage over Windows. Not even the design (I really like Windows 8 design!).
At this point I believe that if you use your OS professionally, then one doesn't really offer much advantage over the other.
Smartest thing to do would be sticking with OS you know best, Windows.
I got myself Mac mini for £348.80 thanks to my university and I can't really regret anything at this price... Even if I end up running Windows on it ;)
I got a Mac Pro yesterday and I can honestly say I love it, okay so the specs are not that special but it is so much smoother and user friendly than Windows. Despite only having 4GB RAM this runs as fast as most 8GB machines easily.
Please close thread
I'm quite sure that the smootness of the os has nothing to do with ram when comparing 4 to 8 gb on OS X and Windows.
Glad you're happy with your purchase tho.
It does, 8GB is a must for a absolute smooth Windows experience.
That said, 8GB is like 70 euro...
I enjoyed reading through that image, it's quite wrong on a lot of things, Apple do not overprice Microsoft's products, Microsoft overprices them. They made the price higher as it had to be made from scratch basically to work on OSX. Including the fact they want more people to use Windows over Mac, they boosted the price so businesses would use Windows over Mac as Office is basically essential in any workplace.
I'd also like to add Apple keeps ALL of it's products up-to-date as much as possible, but Windows also does the same in which Windows 7 will not be supported on my 8 year old machine as it is too out of date. Macs actually have a longer lifespan as they know exactly what hardware is in all their machines and thus can make sure the OS will always work with them - to an extent. Windows has to cover all drivers for all possibilities.
I do agree on the ridiculous pricing of HDD and Monitors - which is the reason I do not have a Mac at my house.
I will say though that whoever made that image probably joined the "hate Apple" bandwagon.
All the best,
Richard Komakech.
Anyone here think it is important to have a computer which not only has stunning specs but runs smoothly and looks and feels beautiful?
