you could consider dell's XPS system but better yet, buy in neweggs to be lightly cheaper*

will you consider the laptop always plug in on a outlet?

    Gaming laptops = pointless.

Over priced and no battery life. Better to just get a gaming desktop.

why you pick AMD? actually the new processor named "Barcelona" is coming out this September. if you really want a PC NOW i would suggest a CPU like a Core 2 Duo E6750. then 2x 1 GB ram
and some sexci graphics card, dunno one out of my head atm.

it's easy, every motherboard has an open slot to add a graphics card.

and well, if you wait one month you got the AMD Barcelona. rumors go that it's fcking pwnage, but prices are unknown yet.. so you can wait for the Barcelona or buy a C2D now.

Biased for you isn't it NP?

Ok i'll give you a perspective and let you make the desision, although laptops are far more portable than PC's they are not as superior performance due to cooling and space requirments of components in a full desktop. Although if you move around alot and arnt normally in your home but are near a charging point then a laptop is a good solution as it is much more portable and then kind of mobility graphics cards out nowadays are very very powerful.

However, PC's are always plugged in and never loose battery and they have much more of a variety of parts avaliable for them which are alot cheaper than the components for laptops/notebooks and give much better performance and are much easier to keep cool.

If your looking to upgrade your current desktop then you will need to buy a new motherboard aswell as a new processor and a new graphics card. You will end up buying all the basic components for a new computer (this works out alot cheaper is alot easier for you to customize)

C2D (Duo Core) is a good option for a processor, for an average PC a E6600 will suit you nicely if your into hardcore gaming then you may want to consider the 3GHz version or a Q6xxx (Quad core). Avoid AMD at the moment as they are trailing behind in the dual core processors as you will notice with there Cache.

For a graphics card ATi give very good performance for the money you will be spending however I don't have a ATi and never have bought one so I can't really comment to much. If you really want a nice graphics card for gaming then you want a DX10 GPU (Geforce 8600 and beyond correct me if im wrong)

RAM gets slightly confusing with the mobo you will be buying you should buy DDR2, and get around 2GB basic for good gaming and the 4GB if you want to run a server etc, I hope what I have said helps you. If you want a more detailed guide as to what to buy then check out NoPeace's guide which are stickyed

Re: [Recommendation]gaming laptop (support any games), Vista OS

Well for upgrading your desktop if you want to be able to play games that will be coming out in the next year or two get this:

    4GB of DDR2 RAM - At least 667

8800GTS 680mb - No need for the 768 when there will be 1024s that will be dropping in prices in a few months.

Upgrade CPU... Probably a Intel C2D E6700 at the minimum, can easily overclock it.
Not sure what your motherboard is but if it doesn't support LGA775 (which I dont see why it would..) see if you can get something similar to this: Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Windsor 2.8GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor - Retail
Larger cache than most AMD's, and its a 2.8 dual core so it should suffice, but I still say you get a new motherboard and go for intel if you want to buy right now.

It would probably help everyone if you posted exactly what your psu and motherboard models are so they can give you valid suggestions.
