I've been arround Windows 8 since the first beta and like everyone else, I didn't like the changes.
I see lots of people using Start8 to make it look like Windows 7, that isn't what Win8 is ment for unless you want something from it like the booting speed (isn't that greater than Win 7 on a normal HDD, but it's supreme with a SSD).
For a few weeks I felt kinda "lost" in the Metro UI, but after getting used to it I found the interface quite interesting... there's a few apps worth having in on fullscreen like the news, a few twitter/facebook apps and a few more but sometime is just awful for me having apps in fullscreen and remove the hability to do multitasking... i mean, in a tablet for example this cannot be called Windows since all metro apps are in fullscreen :P
What I really find useful is just type 3 letters or 2 and get my favourite program on the list in less than a second without the need of configuring hotkeys... the indexing system has improved A LOT, so searches are very very fast (FINALLY). So, I recommend to start get used to the "vanilla" Windows 8, isn't that bad and sometimes is quite useful

Since posting I've tried to use Metro applications more and more but most of them are still crap, haven't had a Twitter client that is any better then using the website with notifications via Mail. All the ones I've tried were either had ads that take up 1/8th of the screen or were way too basic for application and didn't have many more features other then searching for tags or a username.
Developers seem to just put a web browser and use the mobile view of websites and then plaster it with ads or put a excessive price on it.
The best looking, feature rich Twitter application I've seen was $9.99, fuck that, I ain't paying $10 for a Twitter app. I purchased Windows 8 for $5 more lol.

Sort of, AFAIK you can still snap Metro apps & 'normal' apps left/right, so you there is sort of 'windows' in a sense.
I agree.
