Ya the Motorolla cable modem was the first thing i thought of, have gone through a few over the years.

Honestly, it doesn't matter which you get. If you need WiFi then get one with WiFi otherwise just pick whichever one is in your budget. The "extra features" are minimal and you're only planning to connect 1 device over WiFi anyway. If you don't have a hub or switch for Ethernet then just make sure it has enough LAN ports for all the devices you want to plug in.

Also make sure you get the correct modem for your speed, i believe they have 15, 30 & 100MB models, just make sure your modem supports the speed you're on.

So, you want a router? 0o

A surfboard is something you stand on while surfing on waves at the beach.

    See the difference?

Actually, no. Surfboard is a BRAND of MODEM.
Even I knew what he was talking about before even reading his post, and I thought the legends were smart.
That's a major misconception on my part.

You can't base an opinion on looks, that is retarded.

    Really?

By glancing at an image online you deduced the quality & reliability of the device. My, that is impressive.

Not even gonna entertain Max's opinion... but uhm, working through the confusion of your post, if your ISP provides Linksys and Netgear routers look into those

Linksys is Belkin owned now, i would avoid them for a while to avoid being stuck in Limbo of having your device non-supported by both companies.

You mean what 90% of people who shop online and don't look at reviews first do? Or most shops really since you don't have reviews there, unless you can play with the product before you buy it. In fact, I'd say pretty much every game you have to deduce the quality and reliability before you buy it on essentially the box alone, because trailers are mostly CGI (which should be banned imo!)

So yeah, I'd say most people are probably fairly good at judging a product from images alone, everything else like brand is just metadata improving that impression.
