    Turning Off

Ok I recently fitted my old graphics card to my PC again and it is detected completely fine by my system but anytime I do anything like watching youtube videos or trying to convert a video files after about a minute my computer just switches itself off, I donea google search and it said it's most likely to be the cooling? Everything is as normal as it used to be, and I've never had this problem.

Anyone got any ideas on what I should do?

Well an obvious sign is over heating. When this happens again unplug the computer and put your hand over the graphics card. If it's hot to the point where it's uncomfortable to touch it you simply need a cooler for it. You can get many cheap external GPU coolers from ebay for about £10 - 20.

uncomfortable to the touch? Touch a graphic card that overheated? Did you know that graphic cards overheating are around 110 degree's Celsius hot? It will melt your skin if you touch it

Check the Event Viewer, it should log everything including what caused the shutdown.

    It could also be:
    - Overheating
    - Chip creep
    - Not enough power
    - Something you messed up when replacing the card

My definition of over heating isn't at 100 ~ degrees. And not exactly put his hand over it but close to it? Is it possible for a graphics card to get that hot with out melting/burning?

Yes lol, they're designed to take that much heat.

Find a temperature monitor to make sure its not overheating...

I think I've found what the problem is, it seems the fan in my PSu isn't moving but the rest are, so can anyone recommend a solution like opening the PSU up? Or would it be better to buy a new PSu and how hard are they to fit?

I would recommend you to get new Psu since they tend to loose power in time.
And if the fan failed it must be pretty old.

However, changing a PSU fan is a piece-of-cake task.
The only thing you must make sure is that you have the right size fan.

If you want me to recommend you a new PSU, provide a max budget and FULL PC SPECS.

    Power supply failing, of course.

Don't even bother trying to repair it. Its more time efficient to just go and buy a new one.

Replacing the power supply is very simple. To make it even easier just buy a unit exactly like the one you have. Unplug all the wires that are plugged in to components from the PSu, unscrew the screws and take it out. To put it back in just reverse the process.

An anti-static wristband will help to prevent damaging any other components, though I've not experience any static discharge problems it never hurts to be safe.

They serve a specific purpose, you absolutely require one when you work in the industry.

You won't ever need one for home though.

depends on your environment actually. And the precautions you take like grounding yourself regularly.

Holding/touching your PC case will ground you, but technicians usually take the components out and use a test bench instead, so they need the static bands. This is also the case with clean rooms, as there is no other way to ground yourself.

Working on your own PC at home, you will usually just open the side of the case and if you need to swap components out you simply do so.

In a work environment however, if a single component needs to be tested it's usually fitted to an entirely different system instead of simply replacing the one component. Several machines on several different test benches requires a static band, you simply cannot take the risk.

Not to mention that in a home environment you would become exposed to more element and situations which would void/null the grounding provided by the static band (ie. walking on carpet with bare feet as you'll often do in your home, but will never happen in a work environment).

Nevertheless, it never hurts to have one. Just giving him the steps on how you're supposed to do it.

I personally will never open someone else's machine without using one.
