Urgent request

Okay we have super smartphones that run android. Shweet.
I work for private package delivery company, and there are around 50-60 stops a day. Each address you have to read from paper and add manually into GPS since area covers around 4 zipcodes plus you have to find a shortest way around.

Each package has an address and a number on it. Today I saw a guy with an android phone, he was basically scanning each package and I assume phone simply added the scanned info into a file or something. Later that day he said that he found an app that scans the video from camera and recognizes text. Nothing big, we used abby with scaners for a while now.
I asked him for software but he didn't really want to tell.

So was that some sort of custom software?

He had two rectangular areas, one green another blue, number went under green and address on blue.

Anyway anyone can say something about this?
