Which graphic card is better and cheaper?

Yeah, asking comparing this 4. I need to know,

    • The best out of this 4.
    • The cheapest out of this 4.
    • The MOST WORTH (cheap and good) out of this 4.
    Okay. Here goes.

    • NVIDIA 9600GT
    • NVIDIA 9800GTX
    • NVIDIA 8800GTX
    • NVIDIA 8800 Ultra
Oh ya, and why do I see so much different kinds?

    Like,

    XFX GeForce (NUMBER)
    eVGA GeForce (NUMBER)
    etc etc?

    Are they different or what?

    NVIDIA 9800GTX

although its basically overclocked 8800 ultra - its the fastest out of the lot
    xfx
    evga
all these companies sell standard and overclocked cards, depends how much they overclock thats howmuch faster it will be.

note you do need a fast cpu to take advantage of 8800/9800 cards, i had my q6600 at 3500 mhz now and i my cpu is still lagging behind..

The 9800GTX is not really an overclocked ultra, its more of an overclocked 8800GTS 512MB.
Since it has the G92 chip and the Ultra doesn't.
    The best is the 9800GTX.
Cheapest is the 9600GT, and most worth is the 9800GTX.
Although the 8800GT is still the best card if you look at price/performance.

Umm... The 9800GTX is an overclocked 8800 GTS 512 and not the Ultra. Two different chips. One is the more powerful G80 (8800 Ultra) and the other is the smaller but higher clocked G92.

Also you don't need that fast of a CPU to take advantage of them. Any C2D chips is capable of driving a GTX. You wont see much of a performance boost by increasing your CPU. Only RTS games and game with CPU based physics have a CPU bottleneck.

As for which one of them is the best then it's down to what you want it to do. The 8800 GTX/Ultra are much better on higher resolutions then the 9800GTX as the G80 has a higher member bandwidth and they have more RAM. For lower resolutions the 9800 GTX is faster as it has much higher clock speeds and memory bandwidth + size doesn't matter as much.

For the best price to performance ration the 9600 GT wins out by far. $150 which is less then half the cost of the 9800GTX at $350. Also the 8800 GTX is $400 and the 8800 Ultra is $500.

For the price of one of the bigger cards you can get 2 9600 GTs which will be much faster. The only reason to get the 8800/9800 series cards is if you are planning on running two of them in SLI for high res screens or if you must have high levels of AA on all the time.

Though if you do not have a SLI ready board then you have no choice and then you should go and look at the ATI/AMD 3870X2 as it's a better alternative.

Recently I saw someone on YouTube with his rig, 9800GX2 (X2). 2GB of VRAM.

Is that good? He got an average 50FPS with Ultra High on Crysis, AA.. blahblah, 1600x1200 resolution.

I always thought that for a better card it needs more VRAM?

Like, 256MB, 512MB, 768MB, and now 9800GX2 is 1GB. So am I wrong to say that more VRAM is not always better?

All depends on the GPU. More RAM is better only if the core can actually make use of it.

    A 512mb 6200 is not faster then a 128mb 9700 pro. Though a 256 9800 pro is faster then a 128mb 9800 pro.

For the most part anything > 512mb is useless. The only GPU that is really capable of driving more then that is the G80 as that can take much more then the max 768mb that was found in the 8800GTX/Ultra.

Also the 9800GX2 is not 1GB. Its dual G92's with 512mb of RAM. At most it'll ever use is 512mb of RAM that is duplicated over 2 sets of cards. It's just a marketing gimick to sell it.

The cards that actually have 1gb are the single core cards with it like the 8800GT and the 2900XT.

Show me that please. My two overclocked GTXs cannot do that at lower res, so I doubt an 9800GX2 can do that.

Quad SLI is stupid and worthless. Extreamly expensive and performance isn't that good and not to mention most games cannot run it.

Anything over 2 in SLI is just not good. 3-way performs better then 4-way and both are plagued with many problems.

ATI/AMD on the other hand actually has > 2 cards working pretty well.

Re: Which graphic card is better and cheaper?

NoPeace, I'm planning on building a new rig, and I'm putting a XFX NF 790i Ultra 3-Way SLI DDR3 mobo, with 1 XFX 9800GX2. I was thinking of putting Dual 9800GX2 making it Quad-SLI. Should I, or should I stick with 1 9800GX2? Please read my new thread (link below).
