People will get used to it. Microsoft isn't stupid. They know mobile computing is going to be #1 soon and they're just getting ready. When everything is mobile and touch screen people need a similar environment when they're at home, which is why Windows 8 is the way it is. I didn't like metro at first either but I can see the benefits once everything is universal.
I'm sure over time, possibly even in "service pack-like" update, that Microsoft will implement more features that are friendly to desktop users rather than mobile. I can see the benefits to metro and how it will make things easier and I'm sure in time everyone else will too.
For the app closing, think Android (ics / jelly bean). Very easy to use once you get in the habit of it.
yuck.
Windows 8 really sucks, i've tried it's preview release. It's startup speed is godly (thrice as fast as win 7). But other than that, maple can't run on it (that's why i reverted to Win7) and drivers needs to undergo some validation to be used.
But oh well, it'll be good once i get used to it

^ this.
People just don't like change.
It is a pretty drastic change to the well known and liked format that has been around since Windows 3.1 some 20 years ago. I don't see some peope wanting to take on changing that much.
My personal opinion I'd have to see some kind of DRASTIC performance AND security upgrades to even thinking about switching to it. I know Windows has been a massive performance hog for years, that was cleaned up somewhat in Win 7 but it's still nowhere near as good as it could be.
Speaking of security. These changes had to bring some major changes in the coding of "Windows". Microsoft has proven itself not to be the sharpest of developmental icons when it comes to thinking secure in their code...they have proven this on every edition of Windows ever released. I wonder what exploits will be found and abused in this edition.
To sum up my opinion...I really think Windows ME when I see it. Supposedly the "Next big thing" but everyone hated it and it was so horrible Microsoft probably doesn't even want to discuss it.
The video was made in May during the BETA period - not really made for daily use, just some people who might be a little tech savvy and want to try it out. During the RTM builds I'm pretty sure half the stuff he doesn't know how to do is covered in the opening tutorial.
I don't know about everyone else but Windows 8 runs a lot better just at usability level, I haven't done any bench marks or anything but just while I'm doing normal usage it feels a lot more 'lighter'.
Hit the nail right on the head imo.
I'm installing the Pro RTM x64 on a VM. I'll check it out before closing my opinion all together :)
I've been running Windws 8 on my 12 inch laptop for a couple of months now, so I got quite a bit of experience with it, when the full version is out I will be installing it on both my laptops and mediacenter, but I will leave my desktop on Windows 7 for now, while I love metro and have been using it for nearly 2 years (have had my Windows Phone since january 2011), for now I prefer Windows 7 when I got so many applications etc going on. The laptops on the other hand never runs that many at a time anyway and should actually make the use of those devices faster.
To comment on the video, I'll just go by his points.
1. The change in Windows 8 is big, not so much that it has changed under the hood, but the adding of metro as the first thing you see, can be confusing for people who have learned how to use Windows 7 etc. People who understand computers a little better should be fine (whether they prefer it remains the question), people who don't understand computers very well, actually (will) love Windows 8, those people find more options only hard to understand.
2. The success of Windows 8 all depends on the success of the tablets, people will need to get used to it, people generally don't want something they don't know, once they start using it or seeing others use it, they will change their view somewhat and give it a go.
3. The slide up start screen is useless for mouse and keyboard computers, for a tablet it's a must, for regular computers it simply makes no sense. In later versions you can just press space, even though that's still 1 action too many.
4. The scrolling in metro goes with the scroll wheel in later versions, never understood why it was not in the older version.
5. His comments about the simplification of apps in metro makes no sense, it's a metro app, it's like criticizing console games that they won't allow you to make changes in the graphics settings. Metro is aimed at easy to use, if you want to go advanced then use the regular desktop interface.
6. Closing apps etc has been modified.
7. Opening things like the traditional configuration screen etc can be done now by right clicking in the bottom left corner and it will bring up all the stuff to modify configurations, netwerk etc etc
8. How do you shut down your PC? How about the power button...
I'm running the full version of Windows 8 on my laptop for the past 2 weeks ish (got it early from my university).
And I must say a LOT of the things that he said in the video have been fixed now.
But some are still the same, for example how to close an application is still the same, which in my oppinion is stupid because they never told me how to close an application, and it's just like SO much harder than just closing it with the [X]...
Also, I had no idea how to turn off my computer before searching for it, so that's kinda stupid too.
But all in all, it's not as bad as in the video, at least not anymore (a LOT was fixed)...
are you kidding i love change, i would never update a damed thing if i didnt, this just isnt a good change, and i used a much older ver there was no windows button.
i just made a batch file to launch it
windows 8 isnt "pc Gamer" or "pc Dev" freindly
my desktop pc isnt a tablet, or a phone, its a AAA gaming and work machine.
not a fb and twitter time waster, witch this build was based on....

I personally really hate the way they've designed Windows 8 and how the fact that they're making it look more 'tablet like', if I could say so myself. Now, you can agree or disagree with me on this one, but computers are meant for ease of access and they've provided this in every single version of Windows! From version to version they've kept the same user interface, yes I agree it does get boring having to look at the same old, same old UI/GUI for all these years but you have to understand on developers sides and gamers sides, it's just an amazing way of getting around your computer (Windows 7, etc..) and everything is put out to you so you can control what you're doing in a click (if not a click, a few clicks!). And by the developers at Microsoft switching to a more 'tablet form' is completely changing the way we're going to work on our desktop computers, oh but yes it will be good for laptops in a way because they're portable and the new UI would be much better like that (Windows 8) because Laptops are not really for gaming or developing (PHP, HTML, etc.. excluded & laptops like Alienware...) - Please, don't get me wrong! But if I were to use Windows 8 on my desk top, I would be loosing all the advantages I get from using Windows 7, things like the Start Menu easy Close application, minimize application and re-size! And how easy it is to go from one application to another in the matter of one click! But people have their own thoughts and opinions depending on what they use their computer for, but my thoughts are summed down to;
Windows 8 for desk top computers, is just a horrible idea and I don't like that!
Windows 8 for a Laptop, Notebook, Netbook (etc..) is actually a neat idea and innovation for laptops as you know, they're portable like tablets, they're small (well most) like tablets.
But you never know, and I never know, Windows 8 might become more user friendly and have the option to change the way you view your computer and edit the whole UI! But overall, I don't really like Windows 8 how it's coming out (from what I see in the video)
Windows 8 HAS been released officially for a while. I have bought this lovely little program called Start8 by Stardock which adds the start menu back into Windows 8 RTM. I wont be going back to Windows 7 now!
The video creator is retarded, even without a touch screen the start screen is fine, you just press the up arrow and it shows the login screen.
