render is awful what was you thinking :) you can make almost any render better with that tip:
duplicate render layer 2 times so now you have layer1, layer 2, layer3. apply to layer 2 and layer 3 gaussian blur with setting 3,3 next change layer 2 blending mode to overlay and layer 3 blending mode to soft light you should be done by now... but if render looks not really you epected try instead of applying soft light to layer 3 apply lighten and change layers opacity approximately 40% or just get better quality render next time ;)

I like the way that you have sort of added red 'fog' (only way I know of to describe it). I also like the backgrounds texture. It's interesting. ^_^
The animation scares me... I'm not sure why. Probably because, as has been previously said, it looks more like he's squinting then blinking. It was a very good idea, though. :D
I'd give it a 7.8 out of 10.
