Pretty nice for a first timer! but take your time and make one with care and post the outcome here and let us see :)
heres a new one i made, just messing around with some brushes and crap. Dont wanan add tezxt yet , im afraid it will ruin it.
Meh, not bad as firsts and seconds, but try to take your time and also have the render more blended into the bg.
And i hear you with the text, allot of times, i do the exact same thing.
Yah the girl one isnt even like timed, i was just playing around wityh grunge brushes and came up with the bg so i just added a render :P
Probably one of the coolest signatures I have seen in a long time.
The only word that really comes to mind is "magnificent".
what? you guys saying it's nice? omfg, 2 min sig, nice? i think it's bad, what did you do for the first?, gradient, paste render, duplicate render, gass blur the btom render? add a text and the sig is done?

i don't believe that was ur first sig, btw. my first sig was much worser than that.
I never said it's awesome, I never actually left my opinion.
The first sig is pretty much basic, added background, added render and text. That's it. First try.. it's "okay"..
Second attempt, you can see he was doing some "work" on the background, but still render is effectless and there is no text.

Your second is better, but try working on blending.
Adding text is the most difficult goal for begginers, but don't forget that it's a sig!! It must have at least your name, or nickname on it.
I didnt read tuts, i was just messing around, like i said, after getting cs3 for free and ye.
