    hey tripp, maybe you coudl try this..

    Press ctrl+a to select your canvas, then select copy merged.
    Then paste it. Then give that new layer a gaussain blur of maybe 3-4px. Then set it to overlay or hardlight or softlight, depeneding on the results. Then you might want o adjust the levels (layer->layer adjusments->levels) if it gets too bright/dark.
