As for the sig, I like it, for the first attempt. Not usual size for the signatures . Text placement is very creative, good job done on that. Though think you overreacted with the pink thingy.

ok pink is a very cool color to work with and you can do so much with it like red and purples and magenta amoungst others
Try to make it a lil smaller and try to blend the render a bit more.
Do you know what CMYK is? that would be useful to know for a start.
Improve the size & put border to make it more cleaner =]

You have little use for it. You'll eventually have a feel for what colors work best with each other.
There is RGB, NMI, NCS, RAL, PMS and some more. Did this info make you better at photoshop?
yes and no... i was learning about the eyes when we learnt it... got more photoshop help when i took desktop publishing and had to make a book

Since when did adding a filter to the BG and then placing render on it make a good sig even for a starter?
I'd rather remember those times when I started off and did the same and do you know that I was not credited until my 30th or 40th signature? That was not coz the sigs I was making were bad but coz they were not good and probably speaking the truth, maybe thats the only reason I learnt and that's the exact same thing I am trying to do out here.

Most of the first attempts are not even as good as this, hell even most of the starters don't have any ideas what to do at first shot. And you gotta admit it. Now I'm not saying this signature is uber-kickass for first shot, but what I'm saying is that it's better then most of the first attempts I've seen. No matter if it's only filtering and rendering I still like the idea and the creative text placement.
And yeah I remember those times when people weren't only saying: "Read TUTs" but were leaving constructive criticism.

Strangely enough I decided to look through Ins@nes threads in the portfolio to see what kind of criticism and suggestions he got, and only pieman said "read some tuts" once.

That was made in 2004, everything was big.
It's just stupid to see someone with skills and potential saying "read tuts" I'm sure he could've came up with a better "critique" but oh well.
