Design is very bland.
Also, contrast is a big issue as text is too light.
Darken the text up a bit and it's alright, still pretty boring as no colors are really used.

But on the other hand, the text in the "main area"/"navigation" is too light. Other than that, it's not too special for a portfolio site (the slideshow is a very common element, for example).

I like it. Sure it's a little plain, but it doesn't seem like you were going for a complex layout anyway. That slider would look good live ;)

I like everything about it apart from the rounder rectangle where you've put the text in.
