    The render quality is brilliant.

Did you do anything to it?

    The smudging could be better.

What you do is choose a good render, duplicate it, use Guassian Blur to a good radius. Then you have to change the opacity to about 25%. Then merge the original render with the blurred one, and finally you go to Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen. Perfect quality :).

Just for a figurehead.. what would be a "good radius" for most images?

Also, the render placement could have been better.. it's pushed out of the way and thus loses allot of focul.
The smudging is fine, but it lacks depth.
The text doesn't fit well with the flow of the image (there is little flow thow)
Finally, the composition could have been worked better so that there could be more lighting and less seemingly-forgotten space

    :D
