I recommend santrex. They're good.
Well, like I said, domain names don't really need customer support ;)
1and1 and I had our differences in the past- let's just say they don't do my hosting anymore ;).
Never really needed support for a domain, though.
For domains, you can get them anywhere- look for cheap prices with good terms. Haven't looked into GoDaddy- but their popular, so they probably have cheap prices- but watch for terms.
Hosting is the important one.. You gotta have good support and reliable hosting
I use OVH, Hosting and Internet Solutions - OVH. I dont have nothing bad to say about it either do i have anything good to say about it. A while back they where offering free .co.uk domains what got me to sign up, So when i came to buying a domain i went with whatever i was already using.
edit:
By free i do mean free, 100% free As many as you wanted but there was a limit to only one domain per day.
I would strongly recommend s-p-n's method. I've only had a top level domain for a year, then it got cut off for personal reasons, but I hosted it with 1and1. If you actually need support for a DOMAIN, come on... I remember when I used bluehost to host my mini forum, I used their free domain, and after I left them because of their slow service/speed, I never got the domain back. After I get enough funds, I'm probably going to buy my domain, and then host with HostGator.
I was just about to post "wow, nobody has said anything about mediatemple yet?"
i've been with them for a long time, you'll pay a fair bit more than places like hostgator, but the support is fantastic, the product is great and they don't oversell resources.
I have both a (gs) and a (ve) (migrated from a (dv) a while ago) with them, and both have been problem-free
also, if you're after a vps and know your way around linux, I would highly recommend Linode aswell.
