    Downloading YouTube FLVs

I finished the project in the meantime.

I made a new thread for it here

    Old post:
    Spoiler:

    Hello everyone,

Since 'youtube-mp3.org' stopped working I got the idea to create a program that downloaded the FLV file from the youtube host. It worked for about a month and then I think YouTube decided to change something in the accessibilty of those files.

Basically what I did was getting the video HTML document, then splitting it until I got the path to the FLV video, but that doesn't seem to work anymore and I was wondering if anyone DOES know how to get around this.

    How I did it
If you go to a random video like this: Kawasaki Ninja Record Nürburgring 7'50": BEST RACE MOTORCYCLE EVER - YouTube and view the source of the page, you search for "var swf" and inside of that you should find this: "url_encoded_fmt_stream_map". I decoded that and downloaded it and I had the FLV file, but now when I try to access the URL it gives me a Error 403: Forbidden

    The result:

Does anyone have a way around it? And no, I don't want to use websites that offer these services.

Try on any popular song and it won't work.

I don't know if this site still works or will do exactly what you want it to do, but it's what I've used in the past: KeepVid: Download and save any video from Youtube, Dailymotion, Metacafe, iFilm and more!

There are experimental HTML5 features in Chrome and Firefox that allow for manipulation of <video> object streamed data, and you can stream them into local downloads. So you can use YouTube's HTML5 support to just save the playing video to disk with a simple script.

They're also using a Java Applet on that site. How does that exactly work? It has to get the URL from somewhere too.

That would be a good idea. But how would I get that to show up on the HTML?

Edit: Just found this: http://www.youtube.com/html5 I'll see what I can do with it.
Edit 2: It doesn't seem to be playing ANY video in the new HTML5 video, am I the only one experiencing this?

If you want to personally download videos from YouTube , i recomend "Download Helper" firefox plugin , if you want to make a website that does that ... well don't. If you want a program for it , try Internet Download Manager: the fastest download accelerator , the trial works for 30 days without restrictions and downloads any video from anywhere with great speed. If you want to make a site that takes youtube videos and converts them to mp3 , also don't , because you need a special host that has ffmpeg plugin installed , also you need unlimited bandwidth , because each time someone converts a video , it actually downloads it to the server , converts it , and servs it for the client to download.

Personally, but I want to make an automated program that does it. But since YouTube changed the way it gets the FLV file from their hosts the program base I had was not working anymore.

Just with plain code, no plugins for other programs or whatsoever. Any ideas still? I really can't find anything recent on Google
