VB is certainly an easy starting point. Transitioning between VB to something like C/C++/C#/Java might be a mind fuxor though (it was for me). I guess that's less true with the newer versions of VB though, but honestly I'd not start with VB if your interest lies in a different path.

Someone suggested PHP -- and I believe that's an excellent recommendation! -- except for the fact setting up a local webserver + database (assuming DB programming is involved with what you want to learn) might be confusing to someone unfamiliar with such things. I guess using a package like XAMPP or an equivalent would help deal with that though! One thing with PHP though is that it's tied with HTML generally so that would be another barrier to entry.

Well, PHP is only a good thing because the syntax is somewhat similar to C++.
But when it comes to how things are done etc it's not even close tbh. But it's a good start. I don't even remember if I started with PHP or C++ first :P.

I did HTML+CSS than PHP+C++ than C# than Java.
That's about it I think
I can only fully develop in HTML+CSS+PHP the others are just fun stuff and C++ is mostly only Rose Online based stuff
