[PHP] Coding costs - just curious

I'm currently working on a website for someone and wanted to know what I should really be charging for this work.

Its currently a 67 page website, not all pages are dynamic but most of them are. Everything is able to be customized through the config.php.

I have coded custom integration with Xenforo, as well as custom integration with their game panel (this is a MMO server website). A back-end is also planned for easy editing of the site. Xenforo integration includes flawless post pulling, integrating all line breaks and BB code for news. GameCP integration includes pulling item shop information as well as my custom queries for ranking and in-depth server statistics.

The site is CSS2.1 and XHTML 1.0 STRICT valid. I have worked on it for about a week, averaging 3-4 hours a day and I'm still not finished. The template was purchased from template monster, I did not create it myself.

What I need to know is how much I should be charging for this amount of work, and what I should charge on top of the base price for SEO.

I would charge by hour, An average rate iv seen is around £15 per hour but you could charge £60 a hour if you really wanted to. It depends on your experiences and what you produce in that hour.

I personally charge 15euro / hour when I work for a specific company that I know, however if I freelance I charge around 50-70 depending on what company is hiring me.

Also I don't do any project under 2000euro (freelance).

However keep in mind I have been coding for 7 years and am studying in the best school for IT in Sweden and it's the 8th in the world so that certainly helps me push the prices up.

Funny, the most expensive you'd find anywhere in the czech rep. would be around 50€/hour, standard is around 16€/hour, and I'm talking about professionals, not freelancers.

Well, I work for a company as a proffesional, and then I freelance for other companies from time to time, for example I have made a website for one of the biggest chain stores in Sweden, I'm also the CEO, founder and 30% shareholder of another IT company with 3 employees. So I don't really have that much time :P so if sum1 really wants me to make something for them I have to charge what the other jobs combined would pay for the same time + an extra fee.

Also in general stuff in Sweden cost a lot more since we have VERY high taxes etc. So I don't think comparing the czech rep with Sweden is very effective.

Edit: Noticed now I made a typo, not 155/hour, that would be ridiculous lol, 15/hour, changed now. I understand your scepticism lol then.

I wasn't that much skeptic, really, our work is quite underpaid around here.

The average payment for a 'beginning' programmer (mainly one in a career) in the USA is around 30USD/hour. More specifically, between 28 and 31 USD in general for the USA. Although in a career, you are paid a monthly salary.

If you can produce work that is satisfactory to your boss(es) in less time than 40 hours a week, then you would technically be making potentially quite a bit more than 30USD/hour. Of course, it also depends on the company. Maybe they expect you to be in the office 8 hours a day, 5 days a week (full time job in the USA).
If they just expect you to produce work, then it is possible to be paid a 'full time' salary whilst technically working less than full time hours. Of course, once again, this is very subject to which company you are working at.

People with 8-10 years of programming experience may have a salary in the low 6 digits. That's around 55USD/hour.

Oh, and 30USD is 21.80 Euros. 55USD is about 40 Euros.

Freelancing, I would assume, would usually be cheaper than if you were receiving money from your full-time job.
Of course, as others have said, if you believe you have quality code that you delivered quickly, then by all means, charge high. If you did a project in 10 hours that would take a team of two people 20 hours to do, than charge for 40 hours :P.

That's pretty much the same here in Sweden, I always give the company I freelance for (even though I havent freelanced in years lol) an estimate of hours that I will do the work in, and usually finish earlier but still charge the full price unless it's like a 20h difference.

I had no dout in 155/Hour, If you got the skill & expierence you can charge whatever you want, Its up to the client if they go with the deal or not but 15/hour is alot more reasonable xD.

Also what language you working with could make big impacts, Assembly vs. html. Alot more people know html then assembly, And assembly is alot more advanced. Never realy looked much into pricing for assembly but i would estimate around £40/hour but then back to expierence, If they worked for Microsoft conpared to a small local company, The Microsoft guy would get ALOT more.

I estimate how long it would take, Then once its complete i charge per hour rounded to hours. Thats mostly because i dont really do work atm, But if iv spoke to someone a few times why not. Also slightly off topic jw do you send them the work or ask for pay first? I take payments after iv completed the work but before i send them the work incase of stupid little kids who want shit done for free -.- i dont mind helping people for free (aslong as there not asking for me to do 10 hrs of work lol) but when they try to scam that's a different thing.
