Has anyone ever heard of Turing? Here in Ontario that's the coding program we learn, its kinda similar to Java. Just wondering if anyone else has used it or if its odd that i'm learning it in my class.

Similar to Java? I thought it was Pascal-like.
Anyways, I don't think it makes much difference which language they teach in school. After all they only want you to grasp the basics which apply to all programming languages.
I haven't taken programming in school but I know that where I studied they used Pascal.
Looks a bunch like pascal to me. It might have some historical value to learn it? But wouldn't you be better off learning C?
Is it odd you are learning this? I'm unsure. The wikipedia page for the Turing programming languages states three forks, wherein two of them appear to have originated from Canada. It is possible it is used more in that country than most others, for whatever reason.
Referring to the statement I bolded, I would personally be scared to learn something from a teacher that has said that, but apparently not anything about Turing's relation to Pascal. Turing is not at all similar to Java, aside from the fact that they are both programming languages. One of the first things your teacher should have taught you is that Turing is 'influenced' by Pascal.
Turing (programming language) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Turing was the first programming language I learned. It was in grade 9.
We used it to interface with circuits we made on breadboards. Fun times, but we never got into anything really advanced with it. It has been a long time since I did anything in it, but looking back at an old program I wrote (can't believe I still have it), it doesn't seem to resemble java at all for me... More like VBA or VB6.
I think you should just listen to your teacher. I don't know the context your teacher said that in, did somebody ask if it was like Java? If so, then the answer is yes- it's a programming language, and Java is a programming language, so they are similar. Talking in a tone for non-programmers, I can understand how Turing can be similar to Java.
My teacher isn't even supposed to be doing this course, he has all his lessons from another teacher that's actually qualified to do the class properly. I wasn't sure, so i relied on what he said. Well clearly he's proven wrong now :P. But yeah, I guess its just Canada that uses it o:.
I am in grade 10, last semester, Computer programming. We aren't using it with circuits, were doing actual codes and also graphics. My teacher lies :(
Yeah someone asked, and he kinda explained, though he isn't fit for this course. I guess that's what he could've meant. Haha i sound so stupid now, ive been getting mixed up
Anyways, In general, Will learning this even help me with Java and so forth? It pretty easy so far, and I've signed up for next years Advanced Programming classes/ Computer science.
