1812 Overture - Tchaikovsky
I've no idea why I had the urge to listen to this again, but now that I have I'm delighted. Don't know what it is about this song but I love it. It's uplifting and that's difficult to find in classical music.
I, personally, think he is more outstanding in his music than Beethoven. You may not know his name all that well because he is a Russian composer...although his name is somehow hard to forget.
This particular song is the song that you'll actually hear in movies and fireworks displays everywhere because its wonderful beat and rhythm seem like a timeline for explosions(yes...explosions). He also did another favorite, Arabian Dance, which is also a notable piece of music, but I don't know of any place outside of Fantasia that you might have heard it. It is also in The Nutcracker. I don't believe it was called Arabian Dance but it was given the name for its appearance in The Nutcracker with the Arabian Dancers.
Come on..bring back the love for this classical music. Beethoven is great. Bach is great. Tchaikovsky is amazing.
Not sure why people find it boring yet when you actually stick around to listen to it you are mesmerized. It's meant to be mesmerizing, it was a fascinating form of entertainment while today's music is the same way. Rap would have been appalling to people in the 18th century.

Re: 1812 Overture - Tchaikovsky
When I have to stay up late working I always listen to classical music. There is so much emotion put into classical music that you cannot get from any other genre of music.
Which is part of the reason Symphonic Metal is one of my favorite genres next to Jazz.
