    [Album]In Flames - A Sense Of Purpose

New release from In Flames is out. I must say that I was quite impressed with the music and melodies on this CD. Truly amazing that the Flames could make an album where I could care less about Anders' vocals.

Yeah, the album's awesome. Though i miss Anders' growls. And they did a pretty good job with the EP cos imo, they've put the less qualitated songs in it, and when you buy a whole CD you're like whoa!

(Unlike CoB's release - Blooddrunk, sucks imo..)

Can't wait to see them rockin' live. ^^

k, gtg, got a gig soon XD

Re: [Album]In Flames - A Sense Of Purpose

I can honestly say that I much rather prefer the old In Flames album than the newer ones. Such as The Jester Race, Clayman and Whoracle but there's still something special about the new albums they make.

The Mirrors Truth album was a great disappointment to me due to the fact that they completely changed Abnegation to an abomination.

In Flames recently announced that they will most likely only make one more album (a 10th) and then they'll see if they wish to continue. I really hope that that album will be a 18+ track album with some old to new "hybrid" tracks.

Now to the album. There are some songs that are good, but they doesn't give me the chill down my spine I usually get from listening to the old In Flames.

Surprisingly enough Alias, The Chosen Pessimist and Sleepless Again did. I kept listening to the chosen pessimist for like 3 days in a row, only cause there was something "magical" that made me sink down in my chair and just enjoy.

Maybe in about 2 to 3 years we'll see the new and final album from In Flames, until then we'll just have to enjoy what we've been offered.

    Rating: 7/10

Just what do you mean by Abomination. I thought the album's music was nothin less than brilliant and was on par with their old stuff. Although the lyrical side is still lacking, but that is due in most part to Anders losing his voice thanks to years of abuse.

And please link where you found info on In Flames saying they are only going to release one more album because I haven't been able to find anything on the subject.

Have you listened to the original Abnegation compared to the one on The Mirrors truth?.

And I'll try to get you the news paper with the information. It was in Metro, though in Swedish.

    Edit: Here you go

    Translation:
How many more albums will you do?
    - Ten albums, an even and good number. One more that is, then we'll see.

First of all, Abnegation isn't a featured song on A Sense Of Purpose. It's only a track featured on the Japanese release.

But, yes I have listened to both versions. You just have to look at this band as one that adapts. One of the best things about this band is that they can do exactly that. After Anders lost his growl everyone thought the band would break up or turn into shit. But, they didn't and Come Clarity proved it. Sense of Purpose just reenforces the quality and amazing musical flexibility this band represents.

I checked out the preview on there myspace a week before release and I was really looking forward to it, I finally bought it today and it will take a few listens to really review it in a sence. But at the moment I'm enjoying there new style just as much as there original albums. But if I really did have to pick one side, I really still love there older albums such as whoracle and colony.

The first original Abnegation song was bought by Bam Margeras collection album. The second version of Abnegation came in In Flames single that was released somewhere around March called "The Mirrors Truth" that had:

    • Abnegation
    • Eraser
    • The Mirrors Truth
    • Tilt

I said that the single album "The Mirrors Truth" was an abomination due to the new Abnegation version.

I don't know about you, but it seemed like you think I thought A sense of purpose was an abomination. Which it's not.

Well if you must know you were throwing me off. It's not your fault, it's because I'm used to seeing things such as single albums called EPs.

It's true I enjoy their older stuff a lot more. But, I'm still loving this new stuff.

Colony is the best imo. And I think that Sense Of Purpose is the probably the closest we're going to get to their older stuff. SoP reminds me a lot of Colony for some reason. Like Ordinary Story has the same tempo as Mirrors Truth or March To The Shore

In the album release I've bought, i didn't get abnegation or the so called rename. I did buy the single also and I've just realised now that the song isn't listed .
