My personal favorites are Zakk WYlde and Randy rhoads. But the best of skill and what not are Steve Vai, Joe Satriana, Bucketheat (you get the idea, all the virtuosos) and alexi laiho is relaly good and seriously underrated

as a musician myself.. there is no such things as the best guitarist ever.

the guitar is an instrument that is not defined by how it sounds.
the sound and feel differs from one player to the other.

with this u can compare the soulful music of eric clapton to fast sweeps of steve vai.

i can only say that there are people who stand out of any other guitar play... and those are the really great players :)
