    Hendrix.....AHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHSHAFDSsahgfdasfgagfa(whatever)

definantly the most overrated guitarist. His skills weren't that great =/. Me and probably half of the people here could outplay him(probably).

But the thing that sets hendrix apart is his love for the music. He was great not because of his great knack for not having to play a bzillion BPM and still make a solo sound good, but his passion.

lol i probably sound like a dumbass =(

hendrix played very easy riffs that were with overdone effects/whammy bar and severe bends.

hell the star spangled banner he played took like 5-6 minutes...

he isnt really a good guitarist, but did put blues/rock together, so i must say he is a music legend.

At the time what he was playing was very innovative which inpired MANY guitarists. He's definently one of the best guitarists of his time and would of been even better if he didn't pass on.

Also, another guitarist I forgot to mention is Stevie Ray Vaughn.

To Me, Entertainment Through Music Isn't About Playing The Hardest Riff's, The Most Complicated Notes Etc. It's About Making The Music Sound Good - And If Live, Provide Entertainment.

Now In That Aspect Jimi Hendrix Is Definately The Best Since His Guitar Playing Sounded Class And He Was REALLY Entertaining With His Playing - I Mean Come On Guys, You Say You Could Play Better Than Him. Here's A Challenge : Play Better Than Him Using Your Teeth.

I just find it sickening how its only ancient guitarists which are considered good amongst non guitarists....

Become a guitarist and you will know who the real guitar gods are ;)

thats an overused stage trick =/. Theres like a bzillion other guitarists out there that try to be all cool and play with their teeth. Its not as hard as you think it is.

But He Was The First To Do It Publicly - Hence He Is The Grandaddy Of Teeth Playing.
Jimi Hendrix Was A Great Player - You Can't Disagree With Shit Like That.

That is so true. So, my opinion of the best guitarist in a soloist-virtuoso sense is Paul Gilbert ;) or maybe Vai. Both of their solos rock ya socks off.

paul gilbert is the best overall guitarist, he knows good musical theory, his songs arent over progressive like sometimes how virtuosos play, he sticks to the main parts of a scale to make the solo stand out, his guitar has that harsh start and string to string blending that is just brilliant.

songwriting AND virtuoso skills is what makes him best overall.

i cant write a damn song, but i can wail on the guitar, so when i show off and shit playing different scales, people that knwo the guitar think it is good, but emo kids think it sucks...

    ah well, different tastes tbh.

Well actually......theres no way we could compare Jimmi hendrix to Steve Vai to Jimmy Paige simple because they all played diffrent styles of music. Maybe this thread would have been better as a "favorite guitarist" thread =/
