Acutally, I can. I've been a musician since I was three and I know technicality when I hear it. Its hard stuff he is playing, but it isn't driving music. It is music I'd listen to (if ever), if I was mad and bitter. However, if you listen you jazz, you would be listening to music that is FAR more complicated in terms of technicality AND it is easy to listen too :)

That only depends on the type of Jazz your refering too. Easy going jazz is fairly simplistic. While agreessive jazz is known for almost unhuman speed in guitar playing. Brutal death metal is known for it's heavy agreesive jazz influence. But if you want to hear DM that is JUST as technical as any jazz band, listin to Atheist. It's a mix of agreesive/technical jazz with melodic/brutal death metal vocals and guitar distortion.

But never acuse DM as "just noise."

How can you say (From the first page sorry about posting alllllllll the way back here) someone's a better drummer because they have a monster set up? Because they can move around it faster? Or because they need more drums/cymbals to make them sound better?

I listened to their stuff and alot of it is complicated. But..its just 32nd note/64 note variations. Its hard to do, but it isn't as complicated as a 7/16th (time signature), 260bpm with a 5/4 cla've. I shouldn't have said it was pure noice, but it just makes me want to hit things. Are you a musician, DarkestHour?

Yeah with fast jazz you need to almost have 4 brains, one with each limb...for me playing thrash metal is a treat because it's so much easier... True is faster and my feet get a good workout…but for which is harder to do, it is Jazz hands down. Any good Metal drummer you hear more than likely has a very good background in jazz anyway...And for anyone that is going to say otherwise...if you don’t know your music theory at all...then you probably shouldn't be arguing. :D

Yes, i am. I'm part of a brutal death metal band my self named Shadows Of The Abyss. I've been platying guitar for about four years.

But yes, DM is made to make poeple fuck each other up in a mosh. It's what metal is made for. :sport_box

    Agressive Jazz > Death Metal

With death metal all you gotta know is how to work the double-pedal and can roll like a fat lady in grease. :P
