it depends, real metal = power metal.
death metal/black metal is just a modified version of thrash.
all of todays metal is basically thrash... just different versions, metalcore is even a form of thrash.
most people dont even know what true metal is these days...
blind guardian, angra, dream theater = REAL metal bands.

im not dissing slipknot...but they are nu-metal, nothing more nothing less.
new in flames = nu-metal
old in flames = melodic death metal

compare that shit to "upon an oaken throne" and you will see how much the band has evolved...well devolved..."
