Re: mac miller any one?
im sorry to start the hate wagon here but this is shit (just my opinion). This is the song is like every other rap song out today. The lyrics are the same used by every rap artists and anyone can make a song like that. Singing about how much money you have, how much you like to party and do drugs doesn't make good lyrics, and hell if that is what it takes to make millions i can probaly make a better song that that. But i like the beat thou.

I love when I see the occasional person who thinks just because someone raps about Drugs, Money or Girls it's not 'real' or 'good' rap. Let me give you a little Rap/Hip-Hop history. For starters, Tupac, Biggie, Andre 3,000, KRS-One, Sugarhill Gang, NAS, Black Moon, EVERY Hip-Hop and Rap pioneer in HISTORY has, or did rap about Drugs, Money and Girls. You need to rethink what 'good' lyrics are, because what 'good' lyrics are, are lyrics that come from your heart. Doesn't matter what it's about. (Besides obvious things like rape, murder, etc.) That's what rap is all about, expressing yourself and what you love to do. A HUGE iconic piece of Rap, is Drugs, Money and Girls so that would make it even more wholesome and real if you are rapping about these things.
There is no set topic to rap about that makes you 'good' or 'real' or 'original' No. As long as you are rapping from your heart, about things you see, do, feel, then it is as original and real as rap can get. Take Wiz Khalifa for instance. He is generally accepted as a good artist luckily, but of-course there's the occasional hater (yes, cliche but they are truly haters) who comes along and tries to say he sucks and is a disgrace to what rap is really about since "all he does is rap about money weed champagne and girls" Well, just like I've already said, that's Wiz's life. He sees and feels that shit everyday, so he raps about it. THAT is what rap and hip-hop is supposed to be about, a form of expression, not just to bitch about your problems that EVERYBODY has, but to also celebrate the other good things in life that you experience, whatever it may be.
The FCC and the Music Censoring industry fucked that up for us, they had to censor every little thing and make it seem like when you rap about those things you are not real, original, or whatever bullshit excuse they can come up with as to why you're not good. And even then, it is subjective. One person may like the talk about Drugs Money and Girls and the next may not. - And on that subject, Rap was originally created by gangsters, for gangsters. It was not for everyday children, teenagers and hipsters like it is now, so the lyrical content of drugs, money and girls if anything is the very ROOT and SOUL of Rap.
Although you can break it down on a technical level like I just did, because all the greats in Rap history either ONLY rapped about those things, or heavily rapped about them. And like I said that includes Tupac, Nas, Biggie, etc. every legend you can name. And that doesn't only go for rap and rappers, pretty much every musical legend did drugs, and or had sex with a lot of women. Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Elvis, David Bowie, Aretha Franklin (spelling?) Johnny Cash, James Brown, ALL did Drugs or screwed around with women frequently.
As for Mac Miller, I don't personally like this song and I think he has better songs. For instance, Knock Knock and Smile Back are my 2 favorites. Flow, delivery, etiquette, rhyme scheme was all on point. Even though he kinda stole the video idea from a 70's song he still made it his own thing and went in. By technical standards, flow, rhyme scheme, beat, tone matching the beat, lyrical content, Mac Miller exceeds being good and would be placed easily in the top 20, if not 10. There is a technical scale you can measure an artist by, so next time you get some fanboy screaming "OH IT'S A MATTER OF OPINION" uhm, no, it is to an extent for personal taste but there IS a scale you can technically measure an artist by, and that consists of lyrical content, lyrical delivery, flow, flow tone, etc.
