Now, look carefully, and you'll see that when i make a so-called generalization, i can't devide rap into subgenres. yeah, true, there are some old-school rappers that made some sense, and really, those guys deserve respect, but look at what we get today. it's just like what i described! and don't say it's not.
BUT(!), when this guy i quoted made this generalization about rock, he didn't mention what stuff he ment, not to mention you simply CAN'T make a generalization about metal, simply because the many types of metal are WAAAAAY too different.

The worst thing about rap (Mostly back in the older crap) was the bullshit talk about being a gangster/pimp and other stupid shit like that....singing about it..convincing dumb kids that its cool to be one...it worked, sideways hats thinking there "representing" east or west side, flashing childish gang signs at u with there fingers...blah blah Now its more of a POP type of music which also sucks...but atleast it doesnt send those points anymore.
Another thing about rap that pisses me off is the racist slang towards white people...Let some of there lyrics show up in a rock/metal or even a country cd and watch how fast it gets taken off the shelves..........Ive got plenty of proof to back this up.
Good thing is that the gangster,pimp,drugdealer shit has pretty well faded away....aslong as that shit stays out of the lyrics I could care less if it sticks around for a couple more years.

Listen to Cradle of Filth's Damnation And A Day cd. The lyrics are fucking brilliant. Evil they might be, but brilliant none the less. Dani Filth is one of the most gifted individuals in the Death Metal scene right now. He uses paradoxs and plays on words throught many of his songs. So before you start mouthing off about so called "Satanic" bands not having a message, know what the fuck you are talking about.

Cradle of Filths lyics has the most meaning....it might be crazy, or satanic/demonic, but every lyric he writes has meaning. I have 3 of there CD's and the 1 that was banned in the US, recored on tape..cant rememeber the name :/
I like there videos and there music, but the way he sings them i dont really care much for anymore...Its cool shit tho none the less

For the record, I do listen to rap, along with various different types and subgenres of metal, rock, trance, ambient, hardcore, all kinds of shit, yet I only ever find myself listening to Eminem and Tupac when it comes to rap.
It really says a lot about the genre...
For me, it's all to do with talent, and out of the thousands of rap songs I've downloaded, popular and "underground" alike, none of them were any good, even in the slightest bit.
To be honest, I stopped bothering with the genre, and only pay attention to my Tupac and Eminem collections now.
By the way, most black metal is quite poetic...if only you'd bother to read the lyrics of the bands worth listening to. (The genre is pretty plagued with meaningless, poorly produced crap deemed "kvlt".)
And for the most part, black metal is about turning away from the rules and morals of religions, and just being yourself, whoever you may be, without feeling bad about it.

look, if weren't so foolish, you'd have read the rest of my posts about it, and you'd have realized that i do have respect for some of the old-school rappers, although i don't listen to them, because the old guys made some sense. can you name at least one new rapper that could match the old-school ones(lyrically)? i'm pretty sure that no. on the other hand, if you look and all the new metal bands, there is a respectable number of new bands that can match the old ones. take for example, the band Disturbed. they're lyrics, in my opinion KILL the lyrics of Metallica. and maybe Disturbed's music is less complex tham Metallica's, it's clearly as good as Metallica's old songs, only shorter.
Now, let's take one old-school rapper and a new one - 2pac and 50cent. well, i can't compare the music because i don't remember how 2pac sounds like, but tell you what, there is nothing to compare in the lyrics. 2pac's lyrics just OWN 50cent's lyrics. 2pac made some sense in his songs, but look at 50cent - just what i mentioned before - all about sex, drugs, gangsters and partying all day all night.

Well I must say, I just heard a song from Incubus that was unreleased to the public. After 2pac died, somebody from his estate sent Incubus about 1:30 clip of something he was working on before he died called, "Better Days."
Well Incubus mixed it in with their song, "Mexico," but it was never realest because they felt it was too soon.
But I must say, it is an AWESOME song.
