hmm, kinda hard choosing my favorite one, cuz i hear em all, apart from black, grind, gore brutal, and very little death. but must say that my favorite bands are
Disturbed(Hardcore, i think, although some fools call it NU metal)
i didnt put this cause i think viking, epic, folk etc is more like a 'Feel' than a genre of metal.
there i forgot industrial..prolly cause i dont listen to this :s

    ps:disturbed is nu metal :P

Killswitch is a mix between Metalcore/Gothenburn Death. Mainly because of te absence of guitar solos. (But their next album is going pure metal and away from "core")

Yes, I've read this...and I'm tired of arguing about it so drop it.

there wasnt an option for progressive metal so meh, went for power which i love
just got back form a wkd festi in belgium called graspop, had a good mix with some quality bands:

opeth, john oliva's pain, edguy, dragonforce, stream of passion, soil work, evergrey, beyond fear.........

any1 that hasnt heard of this festival just check out the previous line ups i.e dream theater and symphony x on the same day ...

i remember having a conversation on mushrooms after doing some firejuggling with a few mates in teh garden 1 night, we were listening to some tunes and a friend turns around out the blue and goes
"if you got a chav right.. and took them away from all their mates and sat them down, played them this song, do you recon they would actually like it? i mean how could you not... that would be just stupid"

im not talking about some agressive bs screaming growling vocals with pure blast beats or more image/pretentousness than talent.. im talkign about actual metal (i sense flames)

just wondered your thoughts on it, i think there is metal to suit every1, just unfortuantly the more accessable metal is basically manufacted or formulaic crap and people generally get put off buy it, therefore missing the oppertunity to explore and find the life enriching + positive music that is out there

i can see you dont know what your saying, man, no offence.
    MegaDeth(not 'MegaDeath') - Thrash Metal
    Manowar - Heavy Metal
Blind Guardian - This one is really power.
    Metallica - Thrash Metal(old times), Modern Rock(nowadays)
    Slayer - Thrash Metal
    Opeth - Proggresive Metal.

power metal is Falconer, Blind Guardian, Dragonforce, Hammerfall and such. i suggest that next time you check it with Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives
