    Metallica Death Magnet Review

[QUOTE=Rolling Stone]In the Eighties, thrash metal wasn't a scene, it was an arms race: riffs kept speeding up, drum kits got bigger. But with 1991's Black Album, Metallica opted for unilateral disarmament, slowing their tempos, shortening their songs and smelting their chugging guitars and piston-powered drums into armor-plated pop hooks. After that, the band rushed from one reinvention to another, starting with the Southern-rock infusion of 1996's Load and culminating in the muddled, bizarrely produced group-therapy session of 2003's St. Anger. No longer: Death Magnetic is the musical equivalent of Russia's invasion of Georgia

Only problem with the album was the sound engineering; the master engineer fucked it up, royally. From what I've heard of both the LP and CD albums, everything's been compressed, sounds like shit at some parts. But upon listening to it with a friend when he played it on GH, I noticed it sounds a lot better.

Reserching into this I found out that the makers of GH were given a copy of the album before it went to the final master engineer, Ted Jensen.

I can't wait for the tour. I've seen em once before but I didn't really like the show they put on. So, it will be interesting to see this sort "reinvinted" Metallica.

Yupp yupp St. Anger wasn't that much of a Metallica album though it was very successful last year. Death Magnetic is the way I love Metallica.

I dunno, they went back to their "roots," but a band like Metallica should have to do that. They need to be pushing forward like they always have been, to keep changing the industry. This album was just a safe goat to make more money.

...More proof, as if it were needed, that some bands just don't know when to quit making music.

I don't think you read the review...and even if you had, you still don't know what you're talking about.

Just because this review says the album is good, doesn't make it so. As a Metallica fan i feel hugely let down by this album, its just a collection of old song ideas that didnt make it before, stuck together and packaged as a new album. The Day That Never Comes sounds like a mashup song of lots of old metallica songs. From what I hear, Rick Rubin was hardly ever around and didn't really do much. Also, the master engineer messed the mix up really badly, with it clipping all over the place. Overall it's nice to see Metallica are still alive but should maybe stop writing new albums, or at least stop listening to what everyone is telling them, the best albums they made were before they even had a producer telling them what they should do (Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, AJFA).

Actually Mustaine was kicked out before Kill em All. Thus Mustaine wasn't involved in it, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets or ...And Justice For All.

As for this. I whole heartedly agree on the fact that it was produced way too much and the sound engineer fucked it up...but you know, I kinda get tired of listening to a band that never changes. St. Anger was shit. Death Magnet is taking them in a new direction I think. Telling a band not to change is just plain stupid imo.

Unconfirmed claims. If you do the research, Metallica denies it to this day so there's actually no way of knowing.
