Re: Music And The Mentality Of People

Well, I finally got to a computer with internet here in Switzerland and I've read all the replies now.

What I think is that, if people would just educate themselves about music, the world would be a hell of a lot more understanding. I think that music is what truly brings people together all over the world. Over here in Europe, I've already had many people come up to me and talk with me about music just because of the band t-shirts that I wear. (Holy shit this QWERTZ keyboard is bugging the hell out me right now.)

Anyways, I just love music and I think it is the most diverse and encompassing culture in the world. No matter what your musical tastes are, it brings people together. Not once has this thread turned into a flame war on who's music is better. And for that, I thank all of you. This has been a great discussion and for now, I have to leave it at this because I'm on a short schedule.

Tomorrow I'll be in Paris and will hopefully have more time to post. Btw, as I was posting this, Red Hot Chili Peppers came on here in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. Talk about DIVERSE! Well, keep this discussion going!

I had no thoughts and wasn't challenged simply because I had nothing else to add but now with a challenge issued I cannot sit idely.

it is true what you said bout the mainstream being simple and not artistic, but simplicity isn't nececarrily a bad thing.

the worst part of mainstream music is the fact that it'ss all the same, mostly because it's the same old thing but re done and re cut into a different shape.

the simple minded, idiotic and uneducated masses flock to this sort of "art" because they follow a simple psychological pattern, "If they Like it then I like it so that they like me.".

The emergence of this pattern is a direct result of the human "sheep" syndrome. in many cases we tend to follow the group because it gives a feeling of safety and comfort.

Now I would say that I don't listen to mainstream music but that would be the most pretentiouse thing that I could possibly do. Personally I'm not a fan of any particualr genre and I do listen to everything.

Granted most mainstream music is full of shite and deserves to be removed from the worlds history, but every now and then you do find something that reminds you that not everything that's mainstream is shite.

Though this happens very rarely and isn't noticed by many.

It doesnt matter about the type of music, some people just like the sound of good music rather than the theory of music.

Its all about peoples taste, its not all about you.

If you're going to listen to music, you might as well understand it. Otherwise you're just a gofer of the music industry.

Yer but most teens now days love the sound, and they dont care if it takes skill to produce it or not. Thats just their choice, there are still tones of people into the technical parts of music. Its changed, and the only people who understand are those who actually bother to pick up and instrument and find out first hand what it takes to produce excellent music. I dont play an instrument myself, and im obviously in it for the sound, but theres nothing wrong about it, just myy choice xD, but I too will soon be taking up drums to fill up some time in my day, so ill post back when I learn myself what It takes to master the theory of music, and obviously yes I will change my mind because I will obviously want to produce more technical music rather than the basic-good sounding music.

Understanding music isn't about just learning to play an instrument yourself. It's about recognizing the value of all the thought and effort put into producing a artistic melody. It's about the mood of the music and recognizing the emotions it can arouse in people. Whether it's the soft, slow, and caressing sound of Barry White. Or the rapid, tough, and epic sound of Iron Maiden. Music is supposed to be an outward expression of your own personallity and who you are as a human being. But, people today are ignorant of this, and just listen to the mainstream shit that is made just to bring in more $$$. Those bands aren't artists because they don't care about the music or the fans, they just care about one thing and one thing only. Money. Another reason they aren't artists is the fact that most of them don't even write their own music. They get a music sheet from their producers and just play. Thats basically it. They are the label that is put on American dollars and decieves you into buying meaningless art. It's like buying a copy of a DaVinci painting, it has no worth because it isn't the real thing.

I didn't know either... I made a post, but deleted it because I couldn't tell if he was saying you were ignorant or he was.

If he was talking about you, I'll make damn sure to undelete it.
