I'm sick of stupid sub-genres, but would you seriously want something like Slipknot in the same genre as Black Sabbath (in which it's not even metal and people put it in the genre because of the fucking distorted guitars...)? I sure as fuck would NOT.

And when you look up Unearth and fuckwads can't even put it in a genre. wtf!? (for the longest time on metalstorm.ee it's been classified as undefined or something)

Trust me for those who don't like metal, try stoner metal like Neurosis and Pelican I'm sure those two will blow your minds :) (it's not as heavy as metal, but keeps its roots). And for us extremists out there....well we got ours ;)
I know what you mean. Some bands are classified in genres they don't belong. While others, don't even have a genre they belong to. Take Tool for example. There is no other band like Tool. They have a unique sound that is just amazing and unlike any other. And because it has such a unique sound they just slapped a progressive label on them. Don't get me wrong, they are progressive, but it just isn't their proper label.

I also hate it when people think I'm too narrow-minded because I like to put pretty much all music I listen to into specific genres. In my opinion, in today's music industry it is necessary to do exactly that. There are too many bands with so many different sounds to try and just label them as rock, metal, rap, hardcore, etc. They all have their own unique sound and, based on their musical tendancies, should be classified in the proper genre of music.

i personnally love metal and jazz but i listen to almost everything once there's a catchy melody, sweet and complex musicianship...i'm sry i can't listen to White Strips or anything along those lines...once you're too bare-boned, or your lyrics don't make catch my attention(like how Nevermore lyrics always grab me by the neck and never let's go lol), or your musicianship lacking then you're bland to me. The reason i love metal and jazz so much is because they both have everything i like: captivating lyrics, mind blowing guitar tones and riffs, complex, fast and just beautiful drumming with matching basslines...some things most other styles of music lack to an extent. But to me, being a musician and all that bs, i kinda have to listen to alot of different styles in order to "grow" as a musician...if you understand what i mean...

I'm the type of person who listens to a song on the radio and if it comes on again I search for something new.
